Interviews: Shadowburn

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Shadowburn from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

The band name just came out like that. The singer was playing around with words from the first set of songs we had written and wanted to somehow blend two words together as one, which made SHADOWBURN. Then, the idea of that after-burn effect or flash-burn that leaves furniture and people shadows behind in disaster homes made it feel better.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We still are not really sure which genre we fall into and really don’t plan our music around a specific sound or genre. When we get together to create music, it’s a free flow and find what feels good and combines all of our styles to create OUR sound. Then, we let the show makers place us with other bands. We have played alongside death metal, punk, country, hard rock, hardcore, and more styles because our music doesn’t always blend with a specific genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No. Some of us may have known of the others in passing, but we didn’t really fully know each other until we formed the band and fell into this current amazing line up.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Mike Kessell (Bass) - Primus

Derek O’Neal (Guitar) - Korn

Nicki Skidmore (Vocals/Keys) - Starset

David Green (Drums) - Van Halen

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We all write differently. We inspire each other. All of our songs have a vivid or hidden message of inspiration or positivity in them. It starts with one of us in the practice room sharing a riff, rhythm, or lyric and then grows into a song that we build together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Lashbaugh’s West in Frostburg, MD

7. Where would you like to act?

In our own music videos, anywhere and hopefully soon, or maybe in a horror film.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of our favorites above (Korn, Primus, Starset, & Van Halen-ish ) Also, it would be cool to be alongside I prevail, Arch Enemy, In This Moment, and Shadows Fall.

9. Whom not?

Cardi B

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, our vocalist usually pukes after every show. She just pushes through and tries to focus on the music and emotion in the words of the songs to stay in the moment. It always catches up with her after the set though.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Killswitch Engage, Primus, Lacuna Coil, Lamb of God, Disturbed, Seven Mary Three

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Mike - Crack. Nicki - an autograph (seriously can’t get past that)

Derek - A ride back home after a show.

David - My pants.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are honestly inspirational in their responses at shows and when they talk with us. We are grateful for them and think of them more as friends and family. They are all unique and weird, that’s what we love the most about them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s very cool. It’s hard to find sites like this that help promote independent bands and artists, and yours has a really unique roster. The logo needs to pop a little more with maybe some shadowing or an outline, but otherwise, the content and layout is great.

15. Something to add?

If we didn’t love creating music together and have a passion for this, the music industry could be crushing. Music should never be bound by rules and should be something that frees us whether we are listening to it or playing it. We are thankful to be able to do this, and for sites like this that help us spread our music and connect with other bands and artists. I hope that is good. Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you! SHADOWBURN
