Interviews: Sol Ether

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Sol Ether from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

TORANN: The band name was a matter of struggle. Mostly because we originally named the band Golden Head, but due to copyright issues, we had to abandon that name as it belongs to a legacy, German, leather wallet manufacturer. We were originally trying to pull off the nod to Sabbath - i.e. The Band: Golden Head, The Album: Golden Head, Title Track: Golden Head. It took many garbage re-tries to find a new name that was suitable, and wasn't stupid. It is a double- or triple-entendre, depending on how you dissect it. I'll leave the mental footwork on that one up to you.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

TORANN: It just happened naturally as we started making music. We draw from many genres, and do not strictly limit ourselves to Death Metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

TORANN: Yes and no. The original guitarist and I met completely obliterated at an Opeth show. I was convinced someone else's cell phone was mine. He spent 15 minutes convincing me otherwise. We started playing music together shortly thereafter, and within a month Tellus joined the band, and remains to this day.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

TORANN: Impossible to pick, but if I had to: Enslaved.

TELLUS: Joy Division

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

TORANN: The flux of the existential condition and transcendence. Anyone who's actually paying attention may note that we have some Celtic thematics - this is strictly a vessel to point at the former.

6. Where was your last gig?

TORANN: We aren't gigging at present, due to the fact that there are only two of us. We would like to pursue this in the not-so-distant future, but we are more focused on rebuilding our home studio and working on our second album, at the moment.

7. Where would you like to act?

TORANN: I am going to go out on a limb and interpret "act" as "gig." Assuming my interpretation is correct, the where is not as important as having fans in attendance. Of course, it might be nice to play Wacken or Maryland Deathfest in the future.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

TORANN: Behemoth would be a dream, but unfeasible at this juncture.

9. Whom not?

TORANN: No one in particular.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

TORANN: Lots of gin.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

TORANN: Enslaved, Alice in Chains, Mayhem, Deftones, Ministry, Joy Division, Nile, Fear Factory, Immortal

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

TORANN: I'm not sure this applies at this early stage. Return to this question in a year's time.

13. What do you think of your fans?

TORANN: See above. But, we have gotten some really positive responses, thus far.

14. What do you think of our site?

TORANN: I think it's really cool you guys are promoting the no-namers like us. All underground bands could use a foot up. We've been doing a lot of DIY promotion, as well as working with Cutting Edge Metal Promotion and Zach Moonshine of Metal Devastation PR and every little bit counts. Especially from the DIY stuff, it has been a grind, but I do notice progress, even when it is only a trickle. Sites like yours are the bread and butter of the underground.
