Interviews: Yevabog

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal project, Yevabog from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the project on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Yevabog is a character from the book Lost Gods by Brom. She is a dead and forgotten spider goddess living in the underworld. I read the book shortly after getting sober from near-fatal alcoholism, and really connected with the journey through death, and Yevabog is a semi-benevolent figure in that journey that I really identified with.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think there is a lot of evil and pain in the world, and being able to embrace and acknowledge it can be cathartic. I think religion is a massive source of evil in the world and black metal has always stood against that. I, of course, just love the sound of it as well. Despite all of that, there is redemption offered in some of my songs, as my black metal journey has been part of addiction recovery and embracing my true and healthy self.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

It's just me! I hired the unbelievable Robin Stone from Australia to play drums on it, and he did an amazing job. I think he really understood what I was going for. My friend Nihilist sings his signature intense guest vocals on 22 Disciples of Hell, but otherwise, I played and sang everything else.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I think my favorite is In Veste Maculatum. It's just big and ominous sounding. I also really like A Saint or a Witch. It stands out a bit stylistically from the rest of the album, it grooves a little more and has the only tiny section of a guitar solo on the album.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I am an artist whose music I appreciate.

6. Where was your last gig?

No gigs yet. Looking for musicians to play live. If you live in Seattle and want to join Yevabog, send me a demo!

7. Where would you like to act?

I would love the chance to tour just about anywhere if I can get a band together.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who is cool to hang out with. I don't really care if the styles are the same

9. Whom not?

Anyone who sucks to hang out with.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I did when I first started playing a long time ago. Just keep doing it and eventually you won't think about it anymore.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Musically, Emperor is an obvious answer. Batushka, Akhlys, Behemoth, Schammasch. I like Ulver and Depeche Mode. I like Chelsea Wolfe. I like Robyn if I'm gonna listen to pop music. Too many to name them all.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone wanted to buy the shirt I was wearing after a show. That was weird.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I really appreciate anyone who supports what I'm doing. Thanks!

14. What do you think of our site?

I wasn't familiar with it previously, but I've looked around and there are a lot of great bands here!
