Interviews: Vögel

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band, Vögel from Iceland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

Vogel came up pretty early when deciding on a name. But when we added the double dots (Vögel) there was no turning back! It’s a bit edgier, had not been used before, means “birds” in German and we later found out is also slang for sex in German! Not bad at all!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It just kind of happened. We have loved all kinds of metal and music so why not mix it up in some way?

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Three of us have known each other for at least 15 years. Arnar Ástvalds and Sindri have known each other since they were little kids. I (Finnur) got to know them almost 15 years ago playing in another band and Arnar Snævar magically walked into our lives about 4 years ago when forming the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Sindri: Enslaved, Opeth, Gojira

Arnar Ástvaldsson: Opeth

Arnar Snævar: Genesis

Finnur: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Meshuggah, Virus

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

All kinds of things, bands, and emotions inspire us to write. I guess it’s the need to create something new and exciting.

6. Where was your last gig?

Norðanpaunk festival in Laugarbakki, Iceland! July 31st, 2022. (The gig is even on Youtube!) Great atmosphere and people.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere outside of Iceland would be awesome!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who is fun!

9. Whom not?

We won’t rule anyone out!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all had some and still get the butterflies. I’d recommend preparing well, practice, practice, practice. Try to enjoy and embrace the moment instead of fearing it. Also practice like you are on stage, not like you are in your practice space.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

So many bands... Enslaved, Opeth, Gojira, Virus, Gorguts, Megadeth, Dissection, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

An autographed picture!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re all kinds and awesome!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great! I love that you have the “Countries” and “Genres” and all your work in promoting all kinds of bands from all around the world.
