Interviews About Albums: Mikey Ball & The Company - Through The Night (2022)

In this new interview, we sat down with the UK Hard Rock band Mikey Ball & The Company to ask some questions about their new album "Through The Night"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This is the natural progression of the band growing together and my songwriting maturing reflecting on the world around us as we've grown up. This album really expresses the variation in the influences in my writing. It was an incredible experience to record, the band and I spent a week in an air b'n'b so we could just be focused on recording every day. A huge amount of credit for this record has to go to Ben Turner at Axe and Trap studios.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

'Through The Night' for me encapsulates the imagery in my head of the great escapism. How many times have we wanted to escape and just take that long drive that leaves everything behind us? However, reality doesn't afford us the same freedoms. I certainly didn't set out with a key message or theme in mind when I started writing the songs for this record, but for one reason or another, there seem to be running threads throughout the whole record.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

All the songs were primarily written by me before I took the bare-bones songs to the band and they would then bring their own stylings to the sound.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

The stand-out song? Well, for me it has to be the first single 'The Morning'. From the first moment I took this song to the band, every play-through has been electric. It's a song that cannot be replaced on a setlist.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

There was never a purpose-built message within this album, however naturally occurring, there are questions of identity, resilience, and defiance. As well as identifying unifying experiences.

6. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically the inspirations for this album have to be my love of Springsteen, Thin Lizzy, and the Gaslight Anthem. And there is certainly a long list of people I owe thanks to. However, I could summarise it as a huge thank you to everyone who's ever believed in what we do. And a special thank you to the boys in the band for coming on this journey with me.

7. Something to add?

This album is the product of a great deal of passion and care, and so I truly hope you all enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it.
