Interviews: NevBorn

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore/Post-Metal/Post-Rock band NevBorn from Switzerland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was a little accident actually. First of all, I liked the band Mudvayne and the fact that nobody could pronounce their name correctly. Secondly, all the members of our band were studying and the turnover was quite impressive as they stopped playing music one after the other. The band often started up again, as if the band was never completely born.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think that’s our love for movie scores. The nuances, the storytelling beyond the lyrics, and the eclectic aspect of this genre were our fuel for many years.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! But we didn't start out together, there have been so many people involved since 2007 that everyone has come in little by little and been welcomed into the group.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Alan: Thrice / Mastodon

Brice: Every Time I Die / Hubris

Julien: ... (He's on vacation)

Matthieu: Black Peaks / Waldskin

Xavier: Colin Vallon Trio / Ikarus

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The main theme of each piece we publish is: Mortals defying the gods. We don't want to send a religious or atheistic message. We like this subject because it pushes people to take a different direction than the line drawn by destiny.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last big gig was with Toska at Baden in Switzerland.

7. Where would you like to act?

We are simple people. We just want to play in front of motivated, nice and crazy people, no matter the place.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Alan: Darius

9. Whom not?

That's a really difficult question. There will be no fun if we can't identify with any aspect of their music or performance. But we can't name anyone for sure!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I can't speak for all NevBorn members, but I think stage fright could be used as a driving force. If I don't feel it, the show almost always goes wrong. The fear that something bad might happen helps me remember to double-check everything before I go on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Black Peaks, Arcane Roots, Circa survive, The Ocean, Tesseract, Agent Fresco, The Dear Hunter, and a million more!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Everyone responded, "Nothing crazy...until now."

13. What do you think of your fans?

We don't have a lot of fans because we are a small Swiss band, but the people who support us are incredibly kind. We disappeared for about 3 years and the minute we published our first post on Facebook, these people sent messages and told us they were happy we were continuing this adventure. It's a precious gift because they don't have to be so supportive.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is very understandable with clear sections and content that looks very rich (we didn't have time to go into details) and the flashy blue looks very good.

15. Something to add?

It is a big step forward that we have taken in composing this Alkaios project (of which NEMEA is a part) and we hope that the public will appreciate the result. Thanks again to you and to all the other enthusiasts for bringing the music to light because it is something that must be saved at any cost!
