Interviews: Void Cruiser

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Heavy Rock band Void Cruiser from Finland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We just kind of decided on it right after we had finished recording our first album. There was now a huge planning process or anything, we just thought of something cool but fitting to our rather dark but groovy style of playing.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We're not really sure what genre it is. We don’t see that it has ever been a very conscious choice but we do like the sounds we play.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We’ve all known each other more or less since our high school years.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Santeri: Void Cruiser has really grown on me!

Lassi: Many. Currently Brutus and Marriages.

Antti: Too many to mention, but probably last few years Kvelertak!

Teemu: yup way too many to mention but now maybe Metz or Alfa Mist

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Santeri: It can come from anywhere really. Sometimes it's just one thing that sounds good and you just kind of start building around it, listening for where it wants to go.

Lassi: Movies, books, other music, landscapes, dreams, feelings, seasonal changes, and whatnot.

Antti: What's inside you and you just need to let it out.

Teemu: My answer might be quite like Lassi said. Maybe more abstract but mostly the same. I and Lassi tend to have similar tastes in music and arts etc.

6. Where was your last gig?

At Bar Torvi in Lahti. A legendary venue.

7. Where would you like to act?

Santeri: Everywhere! Except for that one place, we won't go back to.

Lassi: Amplifest and Roadburn could be nice.

Antti: Desert daze!

Teemu: Tavastia

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Santeri: I don't have a good enough idea for a duet at this time.

Lassi: Emma Ruth Rundle, Hector, and Brutus

Antti: Tommi Läntinen of course.

Teemu: Craneium, Topi Sorsakoski or Kaiser

9. Whom not?

Santeri: Well, most people. It's more productive to work with people you actually know.

Lassi: Santeri.

Teemu: Lassi, Santeri and Vili. Antti is cool

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Santeri: I used to in the beginning. Just enjoy and feel all of the energy. Don't have too much to drink before going on, it won't serve the performance, or you.

Teemu: I think that if you are not nervous even a little then there’s something wrong and weird about you.

Lassi: I had severe stage fright in the beginning, but after playing improvisation shows with one of my previous bands, it pretty much disappeared. Also, nowadays with Void Cruiser, I have such confidence in the bandmates and myself that I’m able just to transcend into the magical moment and be amazed at what we’re doing together. So probably one of the cures is just to play shows and to be able to play also when things are not going as planned.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Santeri: Nine Inch Nails seems to keep inspiring me.

Lassi: Very seasonal, but if considered in the long-term, probably Type O Negative, Warning, and Brant Bjork.

Antti: You can always find something new from Radiohead.

Teemu: In the long-term maybe Black Sabbath and some good jazz. Our friends' bands keep me inspired.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There are no weird things, we are weird.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are great of course. It is somewhat unreal that our music affects people like it does.

14. What do you think of our site?

Cool stuff for sure!! Promoting bands and spreading the word about great music is priceless.

15. Something to add?

Not really.
