Interviews: Catacombs

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Melodic Hardcore band Catacombs from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it, or came out just like that?

CATACOMBS came about in a time of uncertainty and self-destruction. A failing relationship, drug and alcohol addiction, depression and mental health issues, and losing hope in music and friends. With that being the reality, and only armed with an array of emotions and confusion, CATACOMBS was the word that kept coming up to describe the vast ocean and tunnel-like system in a mind crawling with despair and hopelessness of anything getting better. Est. 2015 but realistically, 2022 is the year of reintroducing CATACOMBS to the world.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Things started off on the melodic hardcore side of things back in 2015, as that was where the music felt most natural with what feelings and emotions needed to be conveyed. Over the years, it started to feel to separated from that sound and still wasn’t getting the point across. The roots of CATACOMBS come from deathcore and heavy side of music, so in 2022, it was decided to reimagine the sound and bring the roots back, so to speak, to a more heavier sound that really spoke to the emotion felt deep inside.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
CATACOMBS is everyone around you.
4. Each band member favourite band?
CATACOMBS listens to and enjoys-Counterparts/ Alpha Wolf/ Pincer+/ Preacher/ Fair Catch/ Thrown/ Kublai Khan/ Structures/ Varials/
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Each song aims to hit home on a number of issues. It varies on what the inspiration for each new song is when it is being written. SLEEPLESS was written in regards to people who suffer from depression and other mental health issues either in silence or have reactive trauma induced responses.
6. Where was your last gig?

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Suffering from stage fright sucks. Coupled with anxiety and a multitude of other things, it can be crippling. CATACOMBS still suffers from anxiety when performing or not performing. Being at shows instills a lot of social anxiety, mostly due to the amount of energy it takes to talk and interact with everyone that wants just a little bit of your time.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
Brendan from Counterparts has inspired CATACOMBS to write lyrics in such a way that gives the listener a direct yet broad spectrum to digest the emotions. Josh Ang (ex-Dealer/Pincer+) has re-inspired the instrumentation, as said before, to go back to a more heavy sound versus CATACOMBS melodic Hardcore beginnings.
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
The weirdest thing to happen, not just with CATACOMBS but the entirety of the musical career behind CATACOMBS was having a random drunk dude, in Amarillo, Texas during a tour for another band , watch him knock over a guitar players whole set up after walking on stage, then being asked to leave, and while refusing to do so, got popped twice in a face by some dude who trained doing MMA, watching him flop to the floor instantly then get back up and walk out bloody.
12. What do you think of your fans?
CATACOMBS hopes that the fans feel the same or find some connection in the music that CATACOMBS has found that brings them peace.
