Interviews: HELL THEATER

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Horror Metal band HELL THEATER from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band’s name idea came after discussing the band’s project. “Hell” expresses the stylistic direction of the band, for image, lyrics, and music writing, while “Theater” represents the vision of a horror show.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because of the common passion of horror themes. It’s important to underline that “our genre” - that could be defined as “horror metal” - is just our way to intend it. We don't like to be referred to be a thrash or classic metal or progressive band, probably something in between, as well as we don't like to be assimilated as resembling any existing band. For this reason, we may not be easy to understand at first listen, but we are confident in the result in the long term ...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Only Brian and Victor, Diego and Bob were found and added later.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Victor: Judas Priest

Brian: Yasunori Mitsuda

Bob: difficult to say, I’d choose Musorgskij.

Unh: Pink Floyd

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It’s very complex and varied. Sometimes we start developing the song from a guitar riff or from a rhythm, and it happens that it may be even suggested by the “wrong” musician... su as a non-guitarist saying “what about a riff like ‘deundendeundelendeung’”? or a non-drummer ”What about a rhythm like ‘tantatata tan ta tata tata tan ta’” :-D The lyrics are obviously very important, or more precisely the story, they inspire us to create the right mood in every part of the song than we work cooperatively adjusting music and lyrics in a continuous cycle until we get the perfect result.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was a sort of secret gig in a little pub near Venice. Lucky the people that were there to see us!

7. Where would you like to act?

Japan, Indonesia, Norway, Finland, USA

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any historical metal band, the more the ones who influenced us.

9. Whom not?

Any nonmetal/rock band.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Despite hundreds of gigs that each of us has performed, every time we go on stage we are excited, but this does not mean that we suffer from stage fright: when we start playing we put the stage to fire and sword, no mercy, we are 100% focused on overwhelming the audience with the maximum energy, and possibly it could be frightened by us :-D For the beginners, just imagine that the audience is naked, everyone sitting in a WC pooping hahaha! Drink some alcohol, but not too much: you may cut the fright but also your performance quality.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Slayer, Metallica, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Mercyful Faith,

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing can be written here !!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are incredible, they travel hundreds of kilometers to see us, and they are very loyal and passionate. The best in the world, from all over the world. We are honored to make music for them!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s very very rich information from a lot of bands from all over the world. It will be even better if people could find HELL THEATER in there!

15. Something to add?

So far all of our albums have been concept albums, so they tell a story in as many chapters as there are songs. We know that they are not easy to listen to the first time, but we invite the public to insist, usually then they grasp the true essence of our music and appreciate it more and more.
