Interviews: SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Skate Punk/Hardcore band SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Shawn: The name Supermodel Taxidermy came from a friend of mine as a joke, but I loved the concept so much that I ran with it. I thought to myself If our society is so hung up on always trying to “look perfect’’ while everything around us is usually a dark mess then we need a mascot for it and what’s a better display for that than a Supermodel Taxidermy right.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Shawn: Crossover Thrash has always been a favorite of mine. I love the attack it gives from blistering fast metal, but I also love the ferocity and attitude that comes from Hardcore Punk Rock. Sandwiching the two together came naturally for me, Bam! Supermodel Taxidermy.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Shawn: No, we actually met after the E.P. ‘A Whorer Story’ was written. I found Mike through a drummer I was jamming with at the time. I remember we only had two months to prepare for our first show which was an open-air festival in our hometown, I almost canceled it because the drummer couldn’t find time to get the songs down. That’s when Mike suggested “hey why don’t we bring in a replacement to cover until your guy has the time again” he said I know someone who would be able to help out. Then Reilly came into the picture, he saved our asses on that one and after playing together for the rest of that month it was very clear our dynamic was meant to be, the rest is history

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Mike: Rivers of Nihil

Reilly: Avenged Sevenfold

Shawn: SLAYER

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Shawn: When I find a topic or an issue that really rots me to the core I usually write a song about it…whether or not It makes it past the rehearsal room is a different question.

6. Where was your last gig?

Mike: We did back-to-back shows for two nights of Halloween in different cities. First, it was Calgary, Ab on the 28th then in our hometown of Fort Mcmurray, Ab on October 29th.

7. Where would you like to act?

Shawn: Full Terror Assault is on my personal radar, but for this year our big goal is Loud as Hell in Drumheller, Canada. We applied for it last month and we boys are pumped to hear back whether we make the cut or not.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Shawn: Suicidal Tendencies, Exodus, Crisix, D.R.I, Dayglo Abortions, Pennywise, Body Count, Municipal Waste……that list is too long to go on.

9. Whom not?

Reilly: We don’t have a list for that one, the band is happy to be on stage playing with anyone that supports the scene.

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Shawn: As I mentioned earlier, our first show was an open-air festival, I recommend doing that for your first gig ever, it will totally help with the rest. My tip for a beginner is to just remember your up there jamming with your friends - Shawn

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Reilly: A Day to Remember, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold; Each of those bands caught me at different levels in my life and impacted my playing ability which shaped how I perform today.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Mike: I was once asked by a female to sign her breasts right in the middle of the stage during a pause in my set.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Reilly: We have the coolest fans. Everyone is always super chill, and we’re easy to approach at the shows so we get to meet a lot of them on a personal basis. It’s the best part of the job.

14. What do you think of our site?

Mike: I love It! Reading about other bands and what drives them is interesting to me, but I also like how your site breaks down into genres. That makes discovering new bands a hell of a lot easier.

15. Something to add?

Shawn: Yes, we just posted up our pre-order link for Vinyl on our Bandcamp page. Once again, thank you to everyone who supports us! Without all of you, it doesn’t mean a thing https://supermodeltaxidermy.bandcamp.com/merch
