Interviews: Thammuz

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Psychedelic Doom Rock band Thammuz from the Netherlands. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We stumbled upon it when we were digging through Mesopotamian history to find inspiration for songs. It just stuck. Thammuz is the Akkadian version of the god Dumizi, which is Sumerian. In Greek mythology, he is also known as Adonis.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We don't think we really chose this genre... It's our natural sound when we play together. An equal mixture of each member. We believe this causes our sound to be a little different.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Vaguely... When Dreckneck disbanded, Jip, Harm en Tinus asked Jurren to join the band. We then continued as Thammuz.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jip: Idles/Alice in Chains

Harm: Kyuss

Jurren: Clutch/Acid Bath

Tinus: Mastodon

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We're really into movies, especially Harm. Our inspiration draws from alienating and psychotic situations, Serial killers, Aliens and occultism.

6. Where was your last gig?

In De Onderbroek in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) with Low Orbit and Bees Made Honey in the Vein Tree.

7. Where would you like to act?

Zwarte Cross, Desert Fest, Duna Jam, Sonic Whip, Paradiso. We would also like to play more across Europa and maybe even in the United States.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We'd really like to open for bands that contain former members of Kyuss, but we're not picky. If there's a good vibe, we'd love to share the stage with pretty much any band.

9. Whom not?

Bands that use and break our equipment.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really, probably just healthy tension. If there's any tip, just get up on stage and perform a lot. This will make it better.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Of course bands like Kyuss and QOTSA, but we draw inspiration from a lot of bands like dEUS, The Doors, Slayer, Fu Manchu, Baroness, Killing Joke, Monster Magnet, Melvin's, Thin Lizzy, Graveyard, Elephant Tree, Atomic Bitchwax, Joy Division, Deftones and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not that much crazy stuff, we were very surprised when the first person asked us for a signed setlist, but that's pretty much it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We're really siked that people are following us since the beginning in 2020. We're also very happy with the support from people in different countries. We did not see that coming, since we've been playing for just over two years.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site looks really nice. It's awesome that you take the time to support bands from the 'underground' scene and publish so much.

15. Something to add?

We're very grateful to all the people that supported us so far, and hope to see a lot of them during concerts!
