Interviews: Devoured By The Depths

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Depressive Black Metal band, Devoured By The Depths from Canada. Check out the interview.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

So in the early stages of forming the band, I was just writing down names as they came to me and Devoured By The Depths was one of many to me it was the best option as it both sounded great and would fit the genre and themes I wanted to write in so it just kind of came out of random thoughts.

Matt: I didn't have a part in the naming of the band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Emerson: At the time I was getting into a lot of atmospheric and depressive black metal as a whole and I wanted to try playing it for myself (at the time it was just a solo project in early 2020).

Matt: I always found the atmosphere and dark melodic aspects of black metal to be enjoyable and my playing in my other bands really lended itself towards that.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Emerson: Yeah we already had known each other for some time but this is the first time we had been on a project together.

Matt: Yes, we knew each other from a social media site called “Metal Amino”.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Emerson: Currently Austere.

Matt: Anaal Nathrakh

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Emerson: Just kind of my own thoughts as I go through my day something will pop into my mind and I will write about it or I'll be listening to a song and it brings up a theme that may interest me.

Matt: Listening to music while stoned is a huge source of inspiration for me honestly.

6. Where was your last gig?

Emerson: So far we haven't played any gigs together as we are in different parts of the country, I'm in Canada and Matt is in Nova Scotia so it would be difficult to make happen.

7. Where would you like to act?

Haven't thought of that so far honestly, but radio play would be cool!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Emerson: Would love to have Paulo Bruno (Thy Light) solo on one of our songs.

Matt: Azgorh from “Drowning The Light” if I had to choose one, but I like to collaborate with any other artist that will have me.

9. Whom not?

Emerson: Chad Kroeger.

Matt: Jinjer, I hate them.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Emerson: I've never had any onstage opportunities before so i have no answer.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Emerson: For me, it has been Austere and Thy Light.

Matt: Xasthur, Anaal Nathrakh, Drowning The Light, and the Finnish black metal scene as a whole.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Emerson: I await the day I can give a proper answer to this haha.

Matt: Nothing strange comes to mind.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Emerson: Anyone who has supported us is very thankful for.

Matt: I think they’re awesome for continuing to support us as well as my other projects and everyone involved in them

14. What do you think of our site?

It's great, with lots of promotions for all sorts of bands and plenty for new fans to find.

Matt: Don’t have much to say as I’m not very familiar with it

15. Something to add?

Emerson: Just thank you for the questions and thank you to anyone who supports our band or any of our other projects as well.

Matt: I’d like to thank our fans, and my fellow artists in our journey to make some of the best music we can.
