Interviews: Fugit

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Black Metal/Post-Metal/Blackgaze one-man band, Fugit from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name comes from the Latin phrase "Tempus Fugit", i.e., time flies. So, Fugit represents both the agony of knowing that our time is limited, as well as the desire of escape from the world (Fugit = flees). This dichotomy may seem to be a contradiction, but it is how I view life and existence. Call it a bittersweet experience.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I've always been a fan of extreme metal, particularly black metal. However, I enjoy melodies as well as ambient, electronic, and classical music. When the first post-black metal albums came out, I was completely hooked; they opened up a whole new world to me. I believe that this strange mash-up of different genres best represents me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, officially I’m a one-band man, and I try to do everything by myself. But on a couple of occasions, I had guest musicians on my albums, some of whom I already knew and others whom I met exclusively in the recording studio.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Literally too many to mention.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Existence. Our place in the universe.

6. Where was your last gig?

I never performed live with Fugit. My last gig with other bands was likely around 2015-2016. I quit all other bands around that time to focus 100% on Fugit.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'll ever perform live with Fugit.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone.

9. Whom not?

I’m really open-minded.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I did, but I don't think there's a cure for it; you just get used to it. You just have fun, I guess. Also, the more you practice your songs, the more confident you become, but this may limit your spontaneity during the performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

On the top of my head: Alcest, Sopor Aeternus, Violet Cold, Sigur Ros… There are far too many to mention.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far, nothing out of the ordinary has happened. Everyone I've met has been really polite.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I’m forever grateful, without them, all of this would have no meaning.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s awesome! I discovered some amazing bands through your site, keep it up!

15. Something to add?

I would like to thank everyone who has listened to and will listen to my music, and thank you to Breathing The Core Zine for hosting this.
