Interviews: Metal Life Crisis

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal/Power Metal band, Metal Life Crisis from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

SK: …Jerry historically hates every band name anyone comes up with so there were a few that didn’t stick but my wife was having brunch with her cousin and her cousin's husband Brian and catching them up on what was going on with the family. She joked that most men would get a motorcycle or a young hot wife since I already had both playing in a metal band again is how I decided to embrace my midlife crisis. Brian’s reply was that you were having a “Metal Life Crisis“

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

RD: It’s not that I wanted to play this genre of music, I just love to play any type of music and I possibly am drawn towards more heavy types of music generally.

JF: Hearing the power of the riff of Led Zeppelin’s Heartbreaker! That hooked me!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

RD: Myself, Mark, and Shawn we’ve known each other for a long time. Rich is our newest brother. JF No, I just knew Mark from playing in another band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

JF: Very hard question, I have so many favorites. Other than Metal Life Crisis I’d say Below from Sweden.

RD: Led Zeppelin.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

RD: Writing inspiration just comes out naturally. A byproduct of years of inspiration in listening. MY 90% of the time just by playing guitar. It just happens. JF The Low E string.

6. Where was your last gig?

RD: The Stone Pony (Asbury Park NJ) is One of our favorite stages to play. They have an amazing sound crew. And the energy from the crowd is always tremendous. SK Anywhere, hopefully, big venues.

7. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

JF: Have never suffered from stage fright. However, I'm not the one who should be talking to the crowd. Plugging in and playing has never really been an issue. MY, I Also Never suffered from stage fright. What I would advise is to practice performing in front of people you are comfortable with and gradually move out of your comfort zone.

8. What bands have inspired you the most?

RD: Right now, my favorite artist is composer Richard Wagner, which takes up about 90% of my listing time. After that it's classic/progressive metal and jazz. Bands such as UFO, Transatlantic, and Tribal Tech. MY As far as Metal/Hard Rock influences, Ulrich Roth era Scorpions, Schenker, Maiden. JF Mahavishnu Orchestra, Animals As Leaders, Led Zeppelin.

9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

JF: Never had a fan ask for anything weird but once a fan gave me a guitar! I was speechless.

RD: Cut their grass but I don’t think they were fans.

10. What do you think of your fans?

SK: Our fans are among the most enthusiastic I’ve ever seen in our local music scene. They show up in masses every time. They help us all promote not only MLC but other bands that we have been lucky enough to play with. A hand full of them even help us band members run around dropping off tickets to people for the shows we play.

11. What do you think of our site?

JF: This is my first visit to the site. I love it!! I love the focus on new bands. Behind the artworks and behind the tracks is a unique insight into the bands.

RD: Informative.

12. Something to add?

Thank You for the interview and for promoting Metal Life Crisis!!! See you on the road!
