Interviews: Thine Inner Sanctum

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal project, Thine Inner Sanctum from the UK. Check out the interview.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Thine Inner Sanctum, was originally a simple home studio outlet for my doom metal tendencies, I never anticipated it to become an actual Entity releasing albums. The name came naturally the project was my haven, my safe space, and Thine Inner Sanctum was decided as the project name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I am a melancholy goth at heart and have a tendency for dark morbid musical machinations and at aged 19 I discovered My Dying Bride. This openedva doorvfor me where i knew this genre was my musical calling and the rest is history. It has taken a while for my love for death/doom/black metal to come full circle and make this project a reality, not just an idea. Now in 2022 and multiple releases it now feels very real.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Thine Inner Sanctum is essentially a one-man studio project, but working with a few select collaborators. My wife helps out with bass guitar duties but doesn't class herself as a member, more of a session player. I do have a live band waiting on the side for when the project hopefully goes live and becomes an actual band. I the musicians wanting to come on board I met through social media when advertising foe collaborators.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My Dying Bride is my ultimate doom metal love but they are followed closely by Draconian and Triptykon. As for my black metal favorites these would be Ars Magna Umbrae, Behemoth, Satyricon, primordial Cultium Interitium, and Advent Sorrow

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

As far as song Content goes, I have a very morbid and somewhat overactive imagination. A lot of my lyrics stem from a mixture of my gothic and morbid tendencies as well as intermittent bouts of depression this, in turn, brings out endless ramblings of the age-old goth and doom clichés... Inspiration can take hold anytime, anywhere. Personally the love for creating something from nothing, be it musical or otherwise is a big driving force for me. Musical influence is obviously a big part of what drives this project as well, the main ones being My Dying Bride, Behemoth, Triptykon, Celtic Frost, Evadne, Draconian, and very recently Heilung.

6. Where was your last gig?

At the moment Thine Inner Sanctum is solely a home studio project but I hope to take it live soon.

7. Where would you like to act?

I would love to play Damnation festival in England, over the years it has got bigger and bigger. The festival started out as an all day club event in 2005 and it has grown into a 2 stage indoor arena event in the heart of Manchester. Over the years showcasing bands from all extreme metal subgenres and attracting fans from all over the world. It would be the perfect storm and the perfect opportunity. I think it would be here that Thine Inner Sanctum would make their name and their presence known and it would be a perfect introduction to the perfect fanbase.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Draconian, Triptykon, Ars Magna Umbrae, Cultium Interitium, Novembrè, Tiamat, Godthrymm, the list is pretty endless actually.

9. Whom not?

I would be happy to play with anyone at this point, I would be happy for any live opportunities with anyone.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Know your set and make sure your instruments are tuned up. Do not get drunk, one beer is fine to calm the nerves but anymore, just wait until after the show. When you are on stage don't be afraid to give it your all. It doesn't matter if you play to 1 or 1000 people every gig and every opportunity should be taken advantage of so give it 100% every time, go up and play your heart out because for that 25-minute performance you are the one that owns that stage!!! Most of all Believe in yourself.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Draconian, Triptykon,

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

This is still very much a fledgling project. This is the 3rd Thine Inner Sanctum release and the fact people are actually listening and purchasing the music is weird.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are what keep me doing what I do so I thank each and every one of the 20 fans the Project has...

14. What do you think of our site?

I have actually featured with you with my main band in the past and I shall say what I said then... Your site is amazing, and your team is so involved and supportive of the artists and acts you promote and advertise.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for featuring Thine Inner Sanctum and allowing me to talk in-depth about the project. Hopefully, you weren't too bored with my endless rambling. Until next time... Here's hoping the project will be an actual band and not a home studio effort. Thank you all at Breathing the core and a big thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far, Metal Devastation Radio PR, Zach Moonshine, Order of the Black Arts/Transmissions from the dark, Ancient Entity Records, Guts'n'Blood Records, Narcoleptica Productions, Via Nocturna and anyone else I may have missed. Also Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
