Interviews: Wintermoonshade

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Black Metal band, Wintermoonshade from Portugal. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

WinterMoonShade is a gathering of Winter, Moon, and Shade. We wanted to write it as a single word so it could be a unique identifying name. The idea of naming the band like this came from a feeling we get from the environment when we go camping in a special place in our Homeland. It is a quiet place and by night we can see different tones and shadows of the Moon across the branches of the tree giving us a magical perspective and we wanted to transport that same magic into our music.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love music in the first place, no matter the genre if it makes us feel something. For playing and composition, we blend our tastes and make ourselves sound as we are. When we first started the intention was and still do to make music that we would like to hear as well. We wanted to sound Melodic but raw at the same time resembling the duality of things. The development of our shapes in sound lead to what we can hear now in WinterMoonShade's Records. We found later that people were labeling us as Melodic, Atmospheric Black Metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Haze and Fenrir know each other for a lifetime now. Many adventures are shared across the years and that bond is probably the main core of the band. Zefir is some years younger and although known by sight, the bonds started to grow stronger when the band was forged back in 2020.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It is a tricky question this one. We love music in general. Of course, there are many bands and genres that we like most. Zefir is passionate about Metalcore, and Fenrir and Haze are more into Black and Death Metal, Rock, and Folk. Naming bands is always hard but we give away some well-known names such as Cradle Of Filth, Immortal, Dissection, Pantera, and Dimmu Borgir... All great classic names. The list could go on all day...

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mostly the inspiration comes through Nature elements, Tales, dreams, and Nightmares fields. We like to blend them and create our perspective of the sound landscapes. Of course, we got inspired also by the music we hear from other bands, and that sometimes is a trigger so we can imagine new melodies and beats always spicing the flavor with our own personalities...

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Assembleia do Metal in a place called Pindelos dos Milagres in Portugal. It was a great trip where we had the great honor to play along and share the stage with some other national great acts during the festival.

7. Where would you like to act?

This one is simple! We obviously would like to play wherever people want to hear us and have a good time. We guess every single venue has its own particular charm. What matters most is the environment surrounding the gigs!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be a kind of dream that came true to play with any of our main influences. Probably Cradle Of Filth is the most significant band that we usually follow in the sócia media and they seem to be great people to get in touch with.

9. Whom not?

We think that everyone who is nice people is worthy of playing with. Companionship is the best part of the bands to hold on and aid each other to grow. The competition is only healthy when you have the desire to learn from it to get in better shape and feel good to be playing with great acts. So everyone on the same page is more than welcome.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes. Obviously, we get anxious and nervous each time we go up the stage. We want to be as good as we can, so it is a part that lingers in the subconscious field that gives us that kind of chilling every time. The tip is to enjoy the show the most. Every single one is different so is best to appreciate the moment. The rush is only a spice that fuels the shows.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Throughout our musical influences, many bands are great inspirations. We guess in the center we must mention Cradle Of Filth and Moonspell that in the late '90s had a great impact on us to first join and form bands after we devoured time and time again "Dusk and her embrace" and "Cruelty and the Beast" by COF, "Wolf heart" and "Irreligious" by the Portuguese band.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Usually, people behave very well, their desires are just picking and setting list papers, signed Cds, and autographed merch. Gladly weird requests are out of the question until now.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fan base is growing and we guess that we are capturing the attention of people with very good energy. We thank all the people who are listening and sharing our work so we can reach more and more new friends!

14. What do you think of our site?
