Interviews About Albums: CHABTAN - Compelle Intrare (2022)

In this new interview, we sat down with the French Deathcore band CHABTAN to ask some questions about their album "Compelle Intrare" released in 2022

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It's our third album. We've been composing it for two years, and the composition began, as for many bands, during the 1st lockdown. Musically, this album evolves in comparison with our 1st albums because we wanted to explore aspects that we haven't tried before, like progressive metal and we really enjoy the result.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

"Compelle Intrare" means "compel them to come in". It's a sentence that you can find in the Gospel of Saint Luke. It's a statement that means that Christians are allowed to use strength to convert to Christianity. And this is also the theme and the concept of this new album.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Actually, we're all composers but the main composer is Dimitri Merly our guitar player who created the bases for the songs on the album.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Really hard question! Maybe I would say "Road to the altar". I like this one because it's a song very epic and there are many clean vocals. It's a surprising song.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

No. We don't have any special message to tell. We're just telling a story

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I don't think so. Our lyrics are not supposed to give any kind of deep meaning. These are historical stories and symbols. Just take time to read them if you enjoy the album.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

The main inspiration for me was the reading of Bartolomé de Las Casas's History of the indies. Las Casas was a bishop who was sent to Mexico. He witnessed the suffering of Amerindians and tried to help them. In this book, he describes the native's suffering in order to make change the political decisions of Emperor Charles V.

8. Something to add?

Thank you very much for the interview. We hope that you'll enjoy the album.
