Interviews: Once To Die

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Once To Die from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it, or did it came out just like that? 

One night at practice we all came up with a list of names and went through them one by one crossing off the least favorites and eventually Once to Die was the last one standing.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love all kinds of music and genres but there is no escaping the love of the heavy music genres. We come from hardcore and metal backgrounds and we didn't mean to write in a particular genre but there is no doubt in our influences of hardcore and metal...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Justin and Mark knew each other from a previous band (Carry us Through), found Jey through a craigslist ad (when that was still a thing) new member Austin was in Jey's last band Solus Deus. Hector is a seasoned vet who we knew through mutual friends.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jey - Sevendust

Austin - 3 6 mafia

Justin - Van Halen

Mark - Metallica

Hector - Metallica

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life, love, adversities, culture, differences, triumphs, nature and of course other music.

6. Where was your last gig?

This band has not played any shows yet, since we recently got back together. Our last show was back in 2010.

7. Where would you like to act?

A big festival like Knotfest or something like that.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be sick to feature "Wage War". They've got some killer music going on. 

9. Whom not?

Artists are in it for fame and fortune, not for the love of music.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I still get hella stage fright! After all these years of performing, my heart races and gets super nervous. For me, when the first note hits, I turn my alter ego on and let the music take hold of my spirit. Just let the music take over and lead you! Kill the crowd.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Unearth, At the Gates, Randy Rhodes, As I lay Dying, Deftones, Napalm Death, the late 70s and 80s metal collectives too many to name them all.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To feature on one of our songs! I mean, come on! I love making music with people but how do you have the balls to actually ask if the band wants to feature you? That's just super weird for me, to have someone ask.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I don't like the word fans. If someone supports your music and can feel what you're saying and/or playing, they become family. A community of like-minded people that share a love of a huge aspect of their lives. We are just some dudes playing music we love. Music that has helped us grow and learn after all these years that we want to give back. Give inspiration, and hope and motivate others on how to deal with everyday life.

14. What do you think of our site? 

The website is great! We love the option on the top row for free music, music from different countries, and genres so someone looking for new music or a different style can easily find something that speaks to them.
