Interviews: Spider Mother Earth

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock band, Spider Mother Earth from Portugal. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Hello everybody! Carlos Here to answer all questions. First, thanks for your interview.

The concept of this project is to share new perspectives and positive visions, through the lyrics, about the human being and his spirituality, combined with the sound that I most identify with, which I grew up with, the good Old School Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Bands like Iron Maiden, Megadeth, WhiteSnake, among others, adopted a mascot. Hence the double mascot or symbol, the Spider and Mother Earth, which combine in a mythical story, that the spider is the weaver of our planet, representing the mother of the earth.

The Spider has, in some cultures, a spiritual meaning, as an animal of power, which represents creativity and creation. Every millimeter of the web contemplates the sacred geometry of Creation, the connection and Oneness of the whole, Earth and the Cosmos. The spider, mother of all things, when weaving its web, reveals the creative force in itself, carrying the divine message that resides in each of us the power to create our own reality, to weave our destiny. Each Being is the protagonist of its own story, of carrying out its life mission between the material and spiritual plane.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Directly influenced by my older sisters who listened to Scorpions, Dire Straits, and Queen. The heavier sound came closer to adolescence, through some older friends who listened to AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. It was at this stage of my life that I started to feel the music and the desire to be a musician. I was 15 or 16 when I decided I wanted a guitar. It was during the break from the big school holidays, that I abdicated to go to work so I could buy my first guitar. Even today, I carry within me the desire to reach as many people as possible through music, always following what I feel at every moment, with every breath and heartbeat.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Just the former vocalist. I've known João since 2012. We're both Portuguese. He participated and collaborated on the band's first demos between the end of 2019 and 2020. In February 2019 I moved to Slovenia, where I remain. This is where I started trying to form the band when I arrived.

In April 2019 I met Enver the drummer, with whom I started to put into practice my first compositions that started at the end of 2017.

Spider Mother Earth is currently a solo project, which has the aspect and component of adaptation very present in the vibe of a band. From the experience I acquired over the years, in my journey as a musician, from the daily study and listening to different musical styles that helped me to open up my horizons like Blues and funky and with everything that I have been learning both in the studio and in stage, I became a multi-instrumentalist, composer, lyricist, and recently I discovered a new part of myself that I didn't know: vocalist, when recording and voicing the 2022 album "Insights of Prophecy".

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My favorite band is Metallica, for all that it represents in the world of music, the giants of heavy metal that over more than 40 years have built a solid career, that has created a vibe and identity of their own, which, although it does not gather consensus in the heavy metal world, makes Metallica who they are, the biggest and most popular band in the heavy metal world.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

This is a good question. Music and writing are part of me. Music allows me to bring the two together, one of the reasons why I decided this year to make the project a solo one, to continue to fully express myself and keep the integrity of the objective as sincere and genuine as possible and keep the content/message aimed at helping something beyond music.

Some of my inspiration is trying to understand the mystery of life. The way of human beings and their journey on this plane we live in, the material world, towards spiritual evolution, on this path common to all of us, the various states of consciousness we go through in connection with the divine, with our higher self.

I am an enthusiast of Philosophy, spirituality, and themes related to the well-being and balance of the human being in all its aspects. Over the years I acquired knowledge, not only in the books I read, but in my life experience, in the path I took and continue to take, in fulfilling what is my mission in life, as a man, as a musician, and that is the message that I try to pass on in the lyrics I write, that we are all making a path, where we live every day to be our best version, following with faith, determination and guided by our heart and soul.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last concert was in January 2019, with the AC/DC tribute band, “Dá Cá” in Portugal. It marked what I consider the end of a cycle, the beginning of a new cycle, with my trip to Slovenia, with the dream of being a professional musician. Hence, the realization of what Spider Mother Earth is today is born.

7. Where would you like to act?

At the best and biggest festivals around the world where Spider Mother Earth's music can be appreciated. Ambitious? I would say that dreaming big is free and gives us the freedom to have the sky as the limit, in which all the small dreams can be contained within that big dream, living in factual reality, gratefully enjoying what we have, and celebrating life with all the small dreams already achieved, with the awareness that no one was harmed.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

With the bands influenced me to be a musician, and having the privilege of knowing each one of them personally.

9. Whom not?

I value the respect and professionalism of any and all artists and their art, and I only expect the same treatment.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

It is the achievement of every musician and band to be on stage. For me, it's one of the best experiences of my life! When I go on stage, I experience a feeling of pure freedom! In this precious moment, there is no other place I want to be!

These are unique moments, where I enjoy the feeling of music in me, in the maximum expression of the art that springs from my soul, giving my best and looking at the satisfaction of the audience returning to the stage, their contentment, and the good energy generated by everyone at that moment.

Words of encouragement to any human being who wants and wishes to be a musician, don't be afraid! All without exception, from the amateur to the most professional, we were beginners and inexperienced. It's part of every musician's journey. Time will bring experience and self confidence.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As I mentioned above, I've been listening to hard n' heavy bands since I was very young. From rock to the heaviest metal. Queen, Scorpions, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Guns n'Roses. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura, Judas Priest, these are some of the names that influence my heavier style compositions.

Spider Mother Earth is a project whose inspiration comes from the golden years of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. I also highlight the unique influences and taste for art expressed through the guitar: Guitar heroes Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Eddie Van Halen. Guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore, and a few more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To this day, there's nothing different or strange I can say. All within the norm of a hard n' heavy fan!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are the best in the world! Everyone who identifies with the Spider Mother Earth vibe is welcome to the family!

14. What do you think of our site?

A well-structured website, rich in image and writing components! A place of excellence for the dissemination of bands that are starting their careers.

15. Something to add?

I add Peace, freedom, and Love around the world.

Personally, I express the desire to be able to continue making this art, which is my passion and life mission that I have embraced. To continue to compose with all the love, dedication, and passion I have done until today. And, the manifest will, that the message contained in each musical note, in each letter that I write, reaches people, that despite the difficulties, we must never give up on our dreams, that we must remain persevering, with faith, that there are no limits and it is urgent to dream and believe in a better world.

Thanks to all of you!
