Interviews: Unverkalt

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Post-Metal/Alternative Metal band, Unverkalt from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The roots of the name come from the Scandinavian languages. It's a set of anagrams from many different words that we've searched for a long time before we make a final decision. Unverkalt means "there's nothing left but cold/ ice".

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Unverkalt started as a musical experiment. We wanted to create music that was beyond our known musical paths. We chose to create a safe space of expression where we could be free to experiment and challenge ourselves. Our mission is to create and share music that is constantly evolving without following a specific musical genre but instead embracing many influences from the post-metal/ rock and alternative scenes.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Some of us knew each other before the band was formed but we got to know each other even better after the formation. Although, our new bassist Spyros was a friend of ours before he joined the band in 2022. Communication and connection is the key. Having good friends and people that love what they do is a key factor for us and we were lucky that we met the right people!

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It’s really difficult to answer this because there are so many bands that have a special place in our hearts!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Unverkalt's music is inspired by European cinema, art movements, and human experiences, embracing darkness and romanticism. The initial inspiration for us is human society and the darkest side of human emotions. We observe and translate human emotions and behavior into music.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Athens, Greece in September 2022. It was the last day of the tour with Bipolar Architecture, presenting our debut album “L’Origine du Monde”.

7. Where would you like to act?

Our future plans are to arrange our first tour in the US soon! We would love to play everywhere around the world and visit many countries in the next few years!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would love to play with My Dying Bride, A Perfect Circle, The Cure, and many more!

9. Whom not?

To be honest it is difficult to find someone that we would exclude! Music unites us all!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

A good advice is to take a deep breath if you are feeling nervous before a show. Think that this is your moment and enjoy every part of this experience! As soon as you give in and connect with your music, heart and emotions, the anxiety will vanish! So far, we have experienced a huge excitement before our shows! The key to reducing anxiety is to let yourself free and not worry about any mistakes that can be made! The best way to do that is by recalibrating yourself and remembering from where you started and why. What was the initial motivation. 11. What bands have inspired you the most? If we should refer to straight musical influences, we have to include Björk, Fever Ray, Madrugada, Tool, Mogwai, Cult of Luna, Deftones and the post-rock/ alternative scene in general.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far, we haven't had the chance to experience anything weird! Let’s see in the next few years!

13. What do you think of your fans?

During the pandemic, in 2020 was the release of our debut album. Through these challenging 2 years we got the chance to get in touch with many people around the world (through our social media) that embraced our music and our world. Your support is so precious to us! We thank each and every one of you for making us feel strong and for giving us the chance to express our feelings through music. You mean the world to us! Also, we would like to mention a really special moment from last year's live shows. A truly amazing person traveled from another country to see us perform! We got the chance to meet him after our show and it was a very amazing and special moment for us! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for doing this beautiful thing! We will always remember that!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s awesome that you showcase underground and upcoming bands and artists. Nowadays the support of start-up bands is really precious and needed!

15. Something to add?

Our second full-length album is coming this year via Argonauta Records. This is just the beginning! Buckle up
