Interviews: Antitheus

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Death Metal band, Odinfist from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Martin: It was something we came up with when we were much younger. It means “devil” in Latin. It sort of stuck with us as we got older and we really started to embody the idea of it more and more. It’s taken up a new meaning for us.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Erick: I’ve always had a love for music ever since I was a kid. I think when I was younger I was really drawn to the fast-paced music and especially as a guitar player, I admired players who could play fast. I’ve also loved the community around the genre and I’ve ended up meeting some of my closest friends through our shared passions in this genre.

Martin: I grew up loving metal music and found a particular love for how people could make their voices sound. I made it a mission to learn and figure out how people made those kinds of noises. It’s what has led me here today! Aside from the vocals, I loved the fast-paced, energetic nature of metal music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Martin: We met in school so we were definitely friends first. It’s how we’ve always wanted the band to feel, like a group of passionate friends wanting to make great music.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Martin: I have a few, but Children of Bodom is probably my favorite.

Erick: Without a doubt, Children of Bodom is my favorite band. They were the band that opened my eyes up to more extreme metal.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Martin: I think I’m just inspired by the genre of music itself and by just wanting to make my voice heard. I’m also inspired by our world and the things I notice about it.

Erick: For me, it’s difficult to isolate one thing that inspires me. I write music that I not only enjoy playing but also enjoy listening to. I find inspiration strikes when I’m watching movies, playing video games, walking around in a forest, etc.

6. Where was your last gig?

Erick: It’s been quite some time since we’ve played live. I believe the last show we played was in 2017 at the Charleston in Bremerton, Washington.

7. Where would you like to act?

Erick: I think for any band, the dream is always to be able to play for audiences overseas. I’d love to tour Europe one day!

Martin: I would love to play in Europe. Those crowds of people seem like a ton of fun. But honestly, it would be a dream come true to play anywhere outside of the United States.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Martin: Joe Duplantier of Gojira. What a monstrous song that would be.

Erick: There are so many great artists to choose from. I think it would be cool to collaborate with Wintersun or Fleshgod Apocalypse.

9. Whom not?

Martin: I’d never rule anyone out. I’m always open to unique collaborations if they make sense for us.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Martin: Yes, but I always channel that fear into excitement and let it fuel me. I also tend to think about the immediate aftermath of being on a stage, and not only that sense of relief but also that desire to do it again.

Erick: I think that everyone at some point in their career suffers from it. Before I perform I like to practice deep breathing for about half an hour before I go on stage. This helps a lot with calming my nerves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Martin: I’ve always been really inspired by the bands I grew up listening to like Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, Devildriver, In Flames, Gojira, and Lamb of God just to name a few.

Erick: The bands that have had a huge impact and inspired me would be Children of Bodom, Carach Angren, Dimmu Borgir, Wintersun, Trivium, and Lamb of God.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t really had weird requests at all. One time someone asked us to sign their hat which we thought was really cool. It was the first time anyone asked us to sign something!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are so grateful and honored that anyone is listening to our music. So obviously, they are the absolute best!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great site to help spotlight amazing underground artists.
