Interviews: Atomic Trip

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sludge Metal/Doom Metal/Stoner Metal band, Atomic Trip from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

JC: We started working on the music first, so, when we had a few riffs written down and a vision of what we wanted to play we began to cogitate on a band name. We wanted it to represent the music itself as we are an instrumental band. So, it had to be powerful and hallucinogenic. What could be more relevant than « Atomic Trip » then?

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

JC: Gary and I had already played together for years in a Doom band (Cult of Occult) so for us it was natural, we were already addicted to the Doom vibe. 

Grom: For the trippiness and the powerfulness that Doom provides.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

JC: Yes, for many years! I met Gary at a gig where we were playing with our respective bands and we had never stopped seeing each other since then! And we both met Grom in the tattoo shop where he was working while we were getting tattooed.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Grom: The Bronx

JC: Neurosis

Gary: Nirvana

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

JC: For me, it is the stage. I only write the music I want to perform on stage so I always ask myself if this is gonna be good live or not.

Grom: Mostly weed.

6. Where was your last gig?

JC: I think it was in Chambéry, France at a very cool little festival called « Black Ice Festival ».

7. Where would you like to act?

Grom: In every sludge/stoner/doom festival!

JC: Everywhere! And most of all everywhere is not conventional. Make us play in caves, churches, forests, graveyards, spaceships, kebabs, historic monuments, nurseries, etc., please!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Grom: Bongripper, people would headbang to death! And Ice-T, doom rap motherfuckers!

JC: Let’s make an Atomic Trip / Björk crossover!

Gary: I just want any cello player to come on stage with us!

9. Whom not?

JC: I don’t know, even the things that come to my mind could be cool in the end. 

Grom: Jul and Nolwen Leroy, pretty sure they would still suck even on Atomic riffs.

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

JC: No. Have a few drinks, chill with your buddies beforehand and everything is gonna be alright.

Gary: And don’t forget to take a shit 20 minutes before the show, that’s what we usually do.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

JC: For Atomic Trip I would say Bongripper, Electric Wizard, Mæntis, and early Monolord.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

JC: To buy our whisky flask on which I had engraved our logo. And as being in a band means being broke AF we actually sold him!

Gary: The bad thing was that I didn’t get time to finish drinking the whisky before the guy bought it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

JC: We don’t use the term « fan » but we are always thankful to the people that come to our shows and that buy our music and are glad when we can talk with them. 

14. What do you think of our site?

JC: It was not on my radar before this interview but it is in my favorites now.
