Interviews: Danama

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Indie Rock band, Danama from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or came out just like that?

Rachel: I once heard that in order to stop listening to the little voice in your head that tells you all your negative thoughts, you need to name it. My middle name is Amanda and I thought that was too pretty of a name to give to something negative, so I mixed the letters a little and came up with Danama and it just felt right. Also, you say Danama is like Banana just with a D

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

James: Because it allowed me to express my music in a direct and comfortable way.

Ben: it was just to be around these people.

Rachel: I always listened to a wide range of music and that’s what influenced me to write in this style

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Rachel had met James through Facebook, he then introduced her to Tommy who had known each other since school, and then finally Ben joined the group who again already knew James through uni. 

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Tommys favorite band is Green Day, Bens are Allan Holdsworth’s I.O.U Band, James is Shinedown and Rachel’s is many but the top 3 for this sort of genre are Pale Waves, Imagine Dragons, Twenty-One Pilots 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Tommy is inspired by playing instruments, Ben and James are inspired by being around other musicians whereas Rachel gets inspired by their fans' reactions to songs “knowing that your music is helping someone else feel understood and like they’re not alone is what inspires me to keep writing”. 

6. Where was your last gig?

Maidstone: The flower pot 

7. Where would you like to act?

Rachel, Ben, and Tommy would love to perform at Madison Square Gardens and James would like to perform at Reading festival. Rachel would also like to perform somewhere where no one else has, somewhere unexpected and unique. 

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Tommy “Steve Vai”, Ben “Florence and the machine”, Rachel is either “BTS” or “Twenty One Pilots” and James isn't too sure 

9. Whom not?

Rachel and James is unsure however Ben says “Guns n roses”, Tommy says “Anyone who thinks twerking is cool” 

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Tommy: Yes all the time, best tip is to lose yourself in what you’re doing and play like you’re jamming out to the songs for the first time.

Ben: If you make a mistake that’s the audience’s problem.

James: Just 2 breaths and get on with it.

Rachel: To be honest I don’t really get stage fright, I get impatient and can’t wait to go on, however I do remember when I was younger and performing in my first few shows how nerve racking it was. My best tip would be the more you perform in front of people the more comfortable you will feel. Take that chance, and don’t worry about making mistakes cause everyone does it, if you don’t let the audience know about the mistake chances are they wouldn’t have even realized it. So be confident and go for it, what do you have to lose?

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Rachel: Twenty One Pilots, BTS, IU, Halsey so many.

Ben: “E.S.T”

James: Red hot chili peppers, iron maiden and Metallica

Tommy: Green Day, RHCP, BMTH, Fall Out Boy, Royal Blood, Ghost

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Rachel: a photo and autograph

Tommy: For one more song

James: Autograph

Ben: Autograph

13. What do you think of your fans?

Rachel: The most amazing and supportive people in the world

James: Very positive people

Tommy: Hi mum

Ben: Well-rounded humans 

14. What do you think of our site?

Tommy: Pretty Rad

James: Amazing

Ben: Excellent

Rachel: What’s not to love?

15. Something add?

Tommy: Get the CD of our album coz it’s cool and purple

James: Can’t wait to show everyone the album and the work we have put into it.
