Interviews: Gravehuffer

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Gravehuffer from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name actually came from a friend of ours named Dozer. We used to be called Krom and then in 2012 we decided to change the name because we were getting confused with other bands called Krom and so our friend Dozer had a band called Gravehuffer and he decided he wasn’t going to use it anymore so we basically asked him if we could have the band name and he said “Yeah sure as long as I get free merchandise for life” so we said, “Hey done deal”.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’ve always been into the extreme end of things as far as genres and so when we get together to write and play music, it just comes out that way.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, we’ve known each other for 30 years or more. Mike and I were actually in another band prior to Gravehuffer. This was in 1996 to 2000 and Travis was someone that was always at shows and he is actually really good friends with our previous singer James, so that actually worked out really well when Travis decided he wanted to be in the band.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My favorite band is probably Judas Priest. Travis‘s favorite band is probably Frank Zappa, and Mike’s favorite band is probably Jimi Hendrix.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are inspired by just how we’re feeling at the time, by something we see on TV, a book we’ve read, or maybe a documentary we’ve watched. It could be anything.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was the Tennessee Devastation Music Fest. There were over 1000 people there and it was one of the most amazing shows we’ve ever played.

7. Where would you like to act?

I’ve never thought about acting, but I would like to do voiceover work, but if I had my choice, it would be some kind of Star Wars-related movie or show.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Probably someone like Harrison Ford

9. Whom not?

I honestly have no idea.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I’ve never had an issue with stage fright so I wouldn’t have many tips for someone to overcome that. I get a nervous excitement and I think if you feel that way about something you are doing in front of people, then that should overshadow any stage fright issues you may have.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

It depends on at which point in my life, but if we’re gonna start in the formative years of listening to music, I would say Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Metallica, Morbid Angel, Voivod & Dream Theater.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One time I had a guy ask me if he could play my guitar after a show and I told him no way! For one, there was a band after us so we had to get our gear off the stage and two, I’m not comfortable just letting someone play my gear.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I love them! I love meeting new people and talking with people because most of the time they are into similar things that you are and so a conversation can be easy to strike up and you can also learn more about new bands you’ve never heard of through your fans, and sometimes even get connected with other bands to play shows with.

14. What do you think of our site?

I’m not sure but I’m going to check it out right now. Ha ha ha ha

15. Something to add?

We hope to see you at a show soon and check us out on Bandcamp. Thank you for having us!
