Interviews: Authentic Dissent

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band, Authentic Dissent from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name was planned during the design of the CD. "Authentic Dissent" is the mirror opposite of "Devil's Advocate." It refers to a legitimate disagreement of a theory or premise.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I grew up listening to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, etc. It's in my blood I guess... haha.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our guitar player (Mike Osborn) and I have been close friends since our teenage years. We've played in cover bands growing up, and I convinced him to work on this original project with me. Our other members (Tim Lagasse/vocals and Mike Tortola/drums) were recruited by me.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dave - Mercyful Fate/King Diamond

Mike O - Led Zeppelin

Tim - Guns & Roses

Mike T - Rush

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Lyrically, we're inspired by current events and personal experiences. Musically, we like to try different things (within reason for the genre) so that we're not always playing the same thing and it stays interesting to us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Midway Cafe in Boston in February 2022. We have not played live in 2023 and can't wait to do so.

7. Where would you like to act?

We want to play with other metal bands so we can share our music with new ears.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Is anyone willing to work with us

9. Whom not?

None that we've met so far

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No, we're not shy... haha. My tip is to know your material inside and out. You'll always feel more comfortable if you're confident that you know your stuff.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Too many to mention, but the ones in Question 4 are some. Judas Priest is another.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We were recently asked if we were going to do a tour. That surprised us because we're just a local New England band and haven't established ourselves yet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I don't think we have very many, but the ones that have followed us and bought a CD have been incredibly supportive. We are very grateful that people seem to enjoy what we are doing.

14. What do you think of our site?

I'm sorry to say I haven't looked at it yet, but I'll try to do that.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for the opportunity to talk about the band. We don't do a lot of professional promotion, so we rely on anyone who can share our songs and/or website links. We are grateful for all of the support we've gotten in a short time. We hope to have 2 more songs completed and released this year, so stay tuned!
