Interviews: Goron

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Progressive Metal band, Goron from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

Skyler: It means "crown" in Welsh!

Sam: And one of us is probably Welsh.

Skyler: I am! Well, a long time ago somebody was.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Skyler: Sam and I met through a dude that had just moved to the area and was looking for jams. He liked thrash, and we liked doom.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Rick: I met everyone through Chris, who used to be in the band.

Sam: I didn't know anyone before the band, except maybe Skyler I guess.

Skyler: Yeah, we met Jim before he was in the band though. We've all been friends with him for a couple years.

Jim: I am time.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Sam: Opeth

Skyler: Deftones

Rick: Yes

Jim: These days I don't even know.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Rick: Trauma

Sam: Blunt force, to be exact.

Sklyer: Life experiences, and the world around me.

Jim: A different dog brings me a parcel every week. He knows where I am, no matter where I am. Every time it's the same. He drops the parcel at my feet. He requires no tip. I open the parcel, and it tells me everything I need.

6. Where was your last gig?

Skyler: We played at the Montage Music Hall in Rochester NY a few days ago as local support for an Austrian Pirate Metal band called Visions of Atlantis.

7. Where would you like to act?

Sam: I'd like to make it over to Europe someday.

Rick: I'd like to travel the world, but I'd love to play Japan.

Skyler: I've always wanted to go to Iceland.

Jim: The Aquarium in Baltimore in front of the eels.

Sam: Dude! Yes!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Skyler: Anyone who's down that I can dig, really. I've never been approached about a feature or even thought about it. It would be fun, though. Mastodon can call me whenever.

Rick: I've also never really thought about that.

Sam: Maybe when Opeth loses another drummer?

Jim: Shaggy. Hell yeah.

9. Whom not?

Skyler: The Beach Boys. Those guys are way past their prime.

Jim: Why are you picking on the Beach boys?

Sam: Rhianna, I couldn't tarnish her good name.

Rick: Green Day. That would be too weird.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Rick: In the beginning, yeah. But I haven't had it in like 10 years at this point. To beat it, just practice and become confident in your instrument.

Skyler: Yeah it's like second nature now. At first, it's just weird to have a bunch of people staring at you. Once you're over that, it's just jammin'.

Sam: I get stage fright every time like 2 minutes right before we play. Once we start playing I'm good, though.

Jim: No. I have not. I have no advice.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Sam: At first we were influenced by bands like Electric Wizard, Sleep, and Black Sabbath. More recently, we've been pulling from outside the genre. The number of genres we draw influence from is really immeasurable at this point.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Skyler: I signed a dollar in Albany NY.

Sam: A lot of people like to grab my sweaty man boobs after the show.

Rick: I haven't gotten too many requests so far, but I've signed napkins, drumsticks, and other random objects.

Jim: Why would a fan ask me for anything?

13. What do you think of your fans?

Sam: They can keep touching me if they want.

Rick: I'm grateful for them. We play and write this music to make people happy, and I'm glad there are people out there that enjoy the crazy sounds we make.

Skyler: I'd love to see all of them someday. I think it's wild that people from all over know about what we do, and I can't wait for the opportunity to thank them in person!

Jim: I can't say anything bad about my mommy.

14. What do you think of our site?

Skyler: It's cool!

Sam: It's pretty tight.

15. Something to add?

Sam: Thanks for having us!

Skyler: Yeah, it's been great!
