Interviews: OMINOUS:EXTANT

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Technical Death Metal band, OMINOUS:EXTANT from Costa Rica. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We used to have another name and the band felt that the sound and concept we had built back then was really distant of our long term goals- our most recent concepts and overall approach to the music, so we sat down and had a long meeting where every member pitched a band name offer that was related to our concepts, two words out of everyone's pitched ideas stood out for us: "Ominous" (giving the impression that something bad or unpleasant is going to happen; threatening; inauspicious) and the word "Extant" (especially of a document) still in existence; surviving).

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We have felt comfortable with this type of composition and overall approach to music for several years now, the genre (Tech Death) came just with the need of putting our music in a category, but this is a pretty natural interpretation of our musical personalities for each band member.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not really! Our current line up is the result of several band member changes and even a band name change, so most of us actually joined in the process. Our OGs tho are Erikson (Guitars) and Tony (Vocals), they started the project.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Tony (Vocals): Skeletonwitch

Erikson (Guitars): Porcupine Tree

Jeset (Bass): Obscura

Alejandro (Guitars): Der Weg Einer Freiheit

Emanuel (Drums): Between the Buried and Me

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inspiration for our music comes from many sources, sometimes our songs are kick started by a guitar riff, a vocal idea or even a drum pattern. Most of our concept surrounds topics of wondering, cosmic horror and other profound subjects that you will find in our lyrics.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in our hometown San Jose (CR) around 3 years ago, we played a very small set for a limited number of friends, press and others.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to perform anywhere in the globe! At this point efforts towards our own continent (Central, North and South America) make a lot of sense but we will also make sure to proactively look for collaboration in Europe, Asia and truly anywhere that would like to have our show there. Feel free to invite us anywhere!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We're open for collaboration with artists that are bringing new and different quality stuff to the scene.

9. Whom not?

We're actually open to work with any other artist that aligns to our work vision.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

We've all suffered from stage fright at a certain point and it's still very common for you to still get a bit of "The Chills" before going up on stage, it's a part of the process of succeeding at a live show.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Obscura, Job For A Cowboy, First Fragment, White Ward, The Faceless, Gorguts, Costa Rican Rhythms, Sight of Emptiness, Porcupine Tree, Classical music, Rap, Beyond Creation, Archspire

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

lol! we just released our first single, so no weird fan requests at the moment, not a lot of fans also.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Whomever gets to enjoy our music and become our fan will always be welcomed at our concerts, special events, release parties, etc.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's truly impressive how updated the content in "Breathing the Core" is! From news, Behind the Track features and Band interviews, you can tell you are showing highly valuable information for the reader and we admire that.

15. Something to add?

Just a huge thank you to all of you! Cheers from Costa Rica.
