Interviews: ON

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Power Rock band, ON from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE and also check their latest music videos for "Break You", "Blackmail" and "Underdog".

1. Where is the story behind your band name ON? Can you tell us about your latest album of the same name?

Lucy Di Santo: The name ON for me represents energy, awareness, simplicity, and power. It is also defined as an adverb that means: "indicating continuation of a movement or action".

2. Why did you want to make music in the genres of music you play?

Lucy Di Santo: I don’t think we go out on purpose to make a certain ‘genre ‘of music. The music we write and play is a culmination of each members’ personal influences and experiences. When looking at all 3 of us - that goes from heavy metal to garage to punk to prog rock to funk. All of these are part of the pieces of our final completed puzzle. We just play what moves us and hope that it will move others as well.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? What is your backstory?

Lucy Di Santo: We met with the unifying force of making music. Steve and I were in a band called Acid Test (Sire, Warner) which we paused to form ON - as we wanted a more raw and organic sound. Dan came walking into the room when we advertised for a drummer and we’ve been friends and colleagues ever since.

4. What is each of your favorite bands?

Steve Fall: Jimi Hendrix, Quicksand, Jeff Beck, PJ Harvey

Lucy Di Santo: Beatles, Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Refused, Jesus and Mary Chain, RATM, Public Enemy, Cage the Elephant

Beck Dan Cornelius: Mashugheh, Rush, Queens oh the Stone Age,

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Lucy Di Santo: The state of affairs in the world, in my environment, with my emotions and spiritually - and my mental state. For me, it’s an emotional and creative outlet, as well as a testament or proclamation of life transitions.

6. Where was your last gig? Are any other gigs coming up?

Lucy Di Santo: We are currently on tour on the west coast of the US. We started in San Diego, California on Feb 14,2023 and we are playing through from Washington to Texas and ending back up in Seattle on April 2, 2023.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Lucy Di Santo: in Italy (my roots)

8. Whom would you like to collaborate or perform with?

Lucy Di Santo: Nile Rogers

Steve Fall: Mark Gardener (Ride) and Martin Bisi (producer) and those dreams will be realized rather soon.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Lucy Di Santo: Yes - best tip is to breathe - and realize that most people don’t recognize a thing about what you are supposed to be playing.

10. What artists or producers have inspired you the most?

Lucy Di Santo: The Beatles, Nirvana, Funkadelic, Sex Pistols, Rick Rubin, Patty Smith, Nike Rogers, Chic, Cream, Michael Jackson

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for or done at one of your shows?

Lucy Di Santo: Screamed “take it off!” lol.

12. How important are your fans in terms of what you do? Do you have a special relationship or dialogue of sorts?

Lucy Di Santo: We like to communicate and hang with people at our show as their feedback and reaction is what in turn drive us to play harder. It’s a mutual relationship when playing live.

13. What do you think of our website?

Lucy Di Santo: Amazing Website! So fun!!

14. What are your plans in the next year or so? Is there anything you'd like to add?

Lucy Di Santo: ON is planning to do some recording with producer Martin Bisi in Brooklyn, NYC this spring. We are also going to be doing some remixes with some name mixer producers. We are also in talks about possibly doing an eastern US tour in May/ June. We are always writing and hope to continue doing what we love most - playing music - which is truly a gift.
