Interviews: Fury Of Five

Welcome to our interview with the legendary Metallic Hardcore, Crossover band Fury of Five from New Jersey, USA! With over two decades of heavy-hitting music and electrifying live performances, Fury of Five has established itself as one of the most influential bands in the Hardcore scene. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with the band about their music, their journey, and what's next for Fury of Five. Don't forget to follow their Facebook page for updates on their latest releases and shows!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band was made up of five guys and I wanted to use a number so the name would stand out during a time when a lot of bands were using the word "down" in their names. Then the sound and direction of the band brought "Fury" to mind. Threw the Off in and here we are in 2023 — Fury Of Five.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I think, for the most part, we were all into metal. I was probably the most hardcore out of the five at the time and this was my third band. So with my lyrical direction and influenced by some of the bands we liked, we incorporated a little bit of metal, hardcore and rap to create our style of music and it took on a course of its own.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Mike and I were in my first band Locked Up In Life together. Mike joined in 91 but we broke up in 92. Chico and Jay had a metal band call Manifest Destiny.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I couldn't reach the guys to get this one answered quickly, but Biohazard is mine. Their first two records are like the Old and New Testament to me. Facts.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Just life and what affects me. But when I write a song I bring it to the band and break it down so they can grasp where I’m coming from and channel it properly.

6. Where was your last gig?

Oakland, CA — It was our first time there and the love was real. It was way better than we ever expected. Hopefully we can get back out to the west coast soon.

7. Where would you like to act?

Japan for sure, but anywhere really. We just love to play and bring that Fury worldwide.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I like to do features with bands that show love and respect to how we bring it. I especially show love to Jersey bands to help grow and build the scene.

9. Whom not?

Any band that is out there promoting ignorance and division — I am definitely not fucking with that at all.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Never stage fright, but you can get anxious and butterflies sometimes depending on the bill and crowd size. The true way to beat stage fright is confidence and belief in what you are doing. If you are one hundred percent invested in your craft you will own the stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are so many... Slayer, Biohazard, Sepultura, and a lot death metal influences like Death and Malevolent Creation just to name a few. But there are a lot of different bands and genres that we draw inspiration from.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I never really got asked for anything out of the ordinary, but I signed this dude's girl's titties once at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ right in front of him. He asked me to.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Fury fans are the most real for sure. They know we are one of them because we chill with them. Most of them come from similar places to what we do so the connection goes deep.

14. What do you think of our site?

Haven’t gotten a chance to really check it out, to be honest, but I definitely will.

15. Something to add?

We got a new ep out on Upstate Records “Half Past Revenge” with 2 videos and a lyric video as well on YouTube. We've got a remix in the works for Feel The Reign and we're about to hit the studio to record a new song. Follow us on Facebook & Instagram for our latest happenings and download our new ep on your favorite streaming platform.
