Interviews: Hearscape

Hearscape is a French rock band, known for their dynamic sound and powerful live performances. Follow Hearscape on their Facebook page to stay updated on their latest releases and upcoming shows.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea of the name “Hearscape” came from a word association between “hear” and “escape”, and we found that it described perfectly what we wanted to do with our music: to help people escape from life by hearing our music!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The group was created when Félix and Léa discovered a progressive rock with the band Archive, in particular, the song “lights”. We were sure it would also be the Hearscape universe.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Félix and Léa met each other at music university and decided to create the band. Tristan, Julien, and Clément came after and got in the band after it was created.

4. Each band member’s favorite band?

Léa: Archive

Félix: Archive

Tristan: Pink Floyd

Clément: Queen

Julien: Porcupine Tree

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our song themes stem from lived experiences, and feelings lived in life such as love, sadness, anger, depression, etc... The songs describe specific situations experienced by the singer (Léa) but that everyone can experience or has already experienced (attachment, romantic relationship, abandonment, mourning, toxic relationship, loneliness, social mask, hope for a new society, etc.)

6. Where was your last gig?

We’ve just played in Lyon at the Loupika’s boat, and in Paris at the Truskel.

7. Where would you like to act?

We’d love to play at the Supersonic in Paris, and we’ll actually have the luck to play there on the 14th of June, opening for Taylor Acorn! We're so excited about it!

8. Whom would you like to feature with ?

We talk a lot about the first day when our debut album can finally reach the ears of the band Archive, and that he asks us to do one of their first parts. That would be just amazing! but there are so many artists with whom we would like to work ...

9. Whom not?

It is difficult to name specific artists, but what is certain is that values such as respect, passion, kindness and sharing will always drive our choice of collaboration and scenes.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Sometimes we can feel a bit of stage fright, especially when we play bigger shows than usual, or when we know there are some people in the audience we don’t want to disappoint. We have a little habit to beat it: just before getting on stage, we reunite the five of us and transmit to each other energy and confidence. We are a band and we need to feel that we are one before getting on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Hearscape is a musical mix since several of us arrange our songs. It is above all a pop vocal melody (Coldplay, U2, Muse ) sublimated by a female vocal presence (Gospel influence), with a rock side (The Strokes, Slash) and a complex harmonic progression (Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Archive, Porcupine Tree).

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Just yesterday at Loupikas, someone asked us for a dedication on their butt!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have some who have followed us for a very long time, and it’s huge luck to have them. They saw the band evolve and grow up, and they’ve seen a lot of gigs, which mean they have a very accurate opinion about our performances, as they can compare to previous one. We count a lot on them to help us improve!

14. What do you think of our site?

We appreciate how a website oriented towards metalcore opens up to sibling musical genres like ours. You don't want to fit into boxes, just like us, and you keep looking for new musical experiences! Cheers for that!

15. Something to add?

We are so excited about the release of our debut album "Transient" and we hope it will reach people's ears and hearts!
