Interviews: Hole In The Frame

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Crossover/Groove Metal band, Hole In The Frame from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; you planned it or came out just like that?

Hi everyone! I’m Dan Philip, frontman of Hole in the Frame! What’s up?

The beginning of the band is marked by the research of a particular sound, moving between the vibrations of the states of mind, without worries or patterns, with no restrictions. This is how Hole’s sound was born: distorted, strong, and gloomy. The alternation of rhythmic and powerful parts of the songs is combined to melodic and light atmospheres, creating the real orientation and identity of the band. The decision to use dark, aggressive, and elaborate sonorities was not a random choice because it reflects the rejection and pain of contemporary society, bonded to patterns, habits, and plasticity not allowing one to realize a pure and honest thought. For this reason, we talk about HOLE IN THE FRAME, as a leak, one way out for everyone! A lifestyle that pulls us far from this corrupt and materialistic system, where values are so different from the past and humility is of little consequence.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We talk about a Crossover Groove Metal, that inspired us to emphasize even more our outcry against the contemporary system.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we did! In particular, the guitarist (Steve Verr) and I (Dan Philip) have known each other since we were teenagers and we had taken part in projects together before Hole in the Frame band. After a few years, we met Nick Willy (the bass player), during a concert. We barely knew each other but we never played together. So, we decided to ask him to take part in the Hole’s project. Without hesitation, he joined the band. The band was born from a deal, a dream, or a wish established many years before between Steve and me. We made a promise: “We’ll have our own band! IN OUR OWN WAY!”

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We love a lot of music. We have a lot of favorite bands, that I can’t remember at this moment. But our favorite band, for each of us, are Hole in the Frame...at the moment

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It’s a complicated question! I can say that we write songs for people who want a change. We believe in a social revolution through the power of the musical message. We believe that music is a way to wake up the consciences! We write because we have a reason and a duty against weak minds. Finally...We are inspired by the shit around us! We want to create a Hole around us!

6. Where was your last gig?

Last month, in Genova in Crazy Bull.

7. Where would you like to act?

In the WAKEN festival or RESURRECTION festival.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Corey Taylor (Slipknot) or Jonathan Davies (Korn)

9. Whom not?

We are open to each opportunity. We grasp every opportunity for improvement and growth.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No! We feel comfortable on the stage. A piece of advice could be to believe in your own message. Music is a universal language that can change the world!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We think, most of all, Pantera, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Dream Theater, Korn, Slipknot, Led Zeppelin, Tool, or Rush.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t remember where and when, but during a concert, a fan asked me to throw my underpants in his face.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Building an audience in underground music and especially in the context that we came from it’s hard work. We have a lot of fans that support us and help us to grow as professionals in our area. This is a motivation to keep going with our project. We think we are the only band in our region of origin working professionally, with constancy, and with a passion... to chase a dream. So, the people around us feel this energy! It’s giving and having! We work to achieve a goal...We want to bring Molise’s voice to Europe or in the World. The fans understand this kind of social redemption. For this reason, our common desire for this little city is reflected in them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Honestly, we haven’t had the chance yet to visit your site. we will visit carefully in the next few days. But already at the first sight, we think: “GOOD JOB GUYS! This is fucking awesome!”

15. Something to add?

Thank you so much for this opportunity! Stay high with the family! Hole in the Frame will lead you!
