Interviews About Albums: Hibernaut - Ingress (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Heavy Rock/Hard Rock/Stoner Metal band Hibernaut to ask some questions about their new album "Ingress"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

We had a great time making it! Hanging out with buddies and playing tunes is the best! and having something to show for it is pretty cool too.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

With Ingress our shadow is cast upon the spheres that hold us captive in their orbit. Ingress can be taken simply as Hibernaut’s entrance into the sonic scape with our debut album. It can also be thought of as transformation and travel, all things that enter must come from somewhere. From Beyond? probably.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

I’m (Dave) the primary songwriter, cramming my riffs together and writing lyrics to form the song but the real magic happens when Zach brings momentum with his drums and Josh, movement with his bass. It gets even better when Joey slathers on his psychedelic leads.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Lantern Eyed but just so I can mention Jordan Barlow who did the album artwork for us, which he based mainly off of that song. I couldn’t be happier or more in awe of the piece he created for us. The song itself is about a Maiden, then Mother, and eventually Crone that destroys the whole damn world. Suck on that Earth!

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

As Above, So Below is the underlying theme that weaves its way throughout the album. The macro and the micro, the correlation of dimensional realities, without and within.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Here’s the most blatant example of the theme I was talking about.
From “Lantern Eyed”
Under her watch, lantern eyed
Over the congregation she presides
Pointing to the earth and to the sky
Commanding a legion malign
Hammer and chisel giving birth to a host of solid stone
Hewn from the earth the likenesses of something grotesque and unknown
Attending the figures in her hidden quarry, with an elixir of life she anoints
Preparing for the upheavals glory, downwards and upwards she points

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Reading horror novels and short stories was a huge inspiration for writing lyrics and I’m always inspired by music that feels visceral. We’d like to thank Andy Patterson for recording, mixing, and mastering the album.

8. Something to add?
