Behind The Tracks: Windowhead - You Will Never Be Erased (2026)

The inspiration for this song came from a series of personal losses. Four of my family members passed away within a year, including grandparents who had been important to me since I was very young. As one of them slipped away, I was struck by how fragile memory is. Shared experiences that had meant so much to us were fading from her mind, and I realised that one day the same would happen to me. The song is my declaration that I will do everything I can to hold onto these memories and keep the people I have lost alive in whatever way I can.

Musically, we drew a lot of inspiration from Shoegaze bands like Nothing, Have A Nice Life, and Hum. These bands' melancholy songs had provided a lot of comfort for me during a difficult time, so it all came together very naturally considering the emotion behind the song. Usually our songs are arranged quite unconventionally, allowing them to flow naturally from section to section rather than relying on a verse/chorus structure. But since losses like this are experienced by so many people, we wanted to create something in which people could find catharsis by singing and screaming along. For this reason, we leaned into the verse/chorus arrangement, but left room for a huge crescendo at the end.

While Joe Potts (guitar, backing vocals) and I have been involved in Windowhead for a long time now, this was our first recording with our current drummer, Cieran Leahy, who pulled double duty and played bass on the track as well. Although he sadly joined us too late to record bass, our current bassist Ryan Searle was able to cameo in the form of some backing screams at the climax of the song.

We recorded the song with our good friend Lewis Chapman, who also sings and plays guitar in a band called Looseleaf. Their music combines Shoegaze and Emo in a really interesting way, so he felt like a natural fit for the track.
