Interviews: Contradictions

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Hardcore  band Contradictions, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Luke: Well Steve and I just decided to start a band and at first we came up with a bunch of terrible names and then we decided to start write lyrics first and we took Contradictions from an old lyric that we never ended up using and we really liked it so we kept it.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Well this has been the type of music that we've all really been listening to for the past few years and so we just started getting together and playing it. It just really worked out that way and we're glad it was the sound we developed.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all went to high school together and we all really hung out in the same friend group, Luke and Steve have been best friends since middle school and the rest of us got close in high school. Some of us interacted with each other in separate music projects before, like Dan, Steve and Luke were in a band together for a while so we already knew how well we worked together music-wise.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Luke: I think The Ghost Inside will always be my favorite band to be honest.

Steve: I really love Counterparts, The Ghost Inside, and August Burns Red.

Frankie: Some of my favorite bands are Capsize, Architects, Trophy Eyes, Hundredth and Meridian who was also from Poughkeepsie

Dan: I think my favorite band will always be Green Day, it might not always be who I listen to the most but they'll definitely always be number one; But for hardcore, I really love Counterparts, To the Wind, and Wage War. Meridian was awesome too

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Luke: When I write I don't have anything specific that I'm writing about I just take influences from different things going on in my life or current events. I just get inspired from the music I listen to every day and go from there. There's not really one thing influencing all of our songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at My Place Pizza on Main Street in Poughkeepsie, New York, so far its really the only place we've been able to play but we're hoping to branch out to other areas and even other states soon.

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to be able to play Warped Tour or some other big music festival that's similar to that one day. Being on one of those stages and sitting at a merch tent talking to fans, that just sounds amazing, but really just bigger venues with more people. We just want more people to be able to enjoy our music live really.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We'd love to have Brendan Murphy feature on a song with us. As one of the biggest names in our genre it'd be pretty awesome to do something with him. We just had our friend Christian Evanko, who is originally from Meridian and has been recently doing solo stuff feature on a song with us and that was a pretty great experience, he really added some power to the song.

9. Whom not?

Not really anybody we'd have the door closed on featuring with, we'd definitely be open to new ideas but for the most part we'd like to stay in our genre with features.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Dan: Stage fright has never really been an issue for me, I was a bit nervous for my first show but I only get a little nervous if things start to go wrong. For example, we've had technical difficulties at some of our shows and it kinda caused me to panic a little, other than that it's a lot easier than people think.

Frankie: Yeah same for me I really only got stage fright for my first show but it went away after we started.

Luke: Pretty much what they said, only really had it my first time or when things started to go wrong, the best thing to do is just stay calm, it's easier when you've been to shows before and you have experience just watching, You can put yourself in their shoes and realize that if you mess up nobody is gonna think less of you.

Steve: I've never really had any trouble with it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We take a lot of influence from Counterparts and Meridian. Counterparts is one of the biggest hardcore bands and definitely most of our favorites so we obviously have a lot of their influence in our songs. Since Meridian was so close to our area they've been kind of a big inspiration for us and we record with their old drummer so there's definitely some Meridian influence with his production.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Haven't really had any weird requests, other than the one time we actually played a show in our underwear. That was definitely an interesting experience but other than that nobody has really had any weird requests

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans. Seriously its great to see people supporting us or mouthing the words or even just throwing down during one of our sets. We seriously appreciate any kind of support we get, it's really hard to take that stuff for granted.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is awesome! We really like how you seek out artists that you like it really is a different approach from most press sites. It helps to spread around the exposure which is really cool. You guys really have a lot of different music types and appreciate the artist which is awesome

15. Something to add?

Thanks for asking us to do this! We really can't express how grateful we are. Our EP Lost In The Answer drops on October 25th on https://contradictionshc.bandcamp.com/. A follow on Twitter or a like on Facebook would be much appreciated:
