Interviews: Gravves

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Heavy Noise Rock/Post-Rock/Screamo band Gravves, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were just trying to find something that sounded good, plus we can't spell. That's why there's two Vs.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We don't really know what genre we play, to be honest. We've had grunge comparisons, punk comparisons and a reviewer went as far as calling us metal at one point. It's really interesting to hear what other people think. Hopefully that's a good thing though. We prefer not being pigeonholed.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah - Adam and David were at school together. We spent time seeing each others' bands on the local scene too and playing together. There's an incredible music scene in North Wales. We ended up in a room together as a result of that and now here we are.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We have really similar music tastes! Our band favourites are Queens of the Stone Age, Future of the Left, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Death From Above 1979...too many to mention.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Some of the songs are quite dark. We're happy people - we've had good upbringings, we've each been really lucky. I guess the band is our output for anything somber or angry. There's another side though, we don't take ourselves too seriously. We love smashing together a song like My Pet Rihanna. Mad lyrics, in-your-face vocals. We'd love to play that at a house gig.

6. Where was your last gig?

Maguire's Pizza Bar in Liverpool. We supported Mums, who are absolutely incredible.

7. Where would you like to play?

We'd love to play SXSW. We know people who've gone over there and loved it.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Josh Homme would be amazing. We'd probably just nod and agree.

9. Whom not?

Any metal band who overuse china cymbals. It's become a pet hate of ours.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Have something decent to eat beforehand. If you're drinking, drink two pints. Exactly two though - never more. Play everything at a normal tempo. Keep that in the back of your mind through the whole gig.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The same ones we mentioned earlier really, but we like a mix of things. The drums/bass can go into a dance vibe sometimes, a bit like Does It Offend You, Yeah (RIP).

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We've not really had any weird requests yet...hopefully this interview doesn't lead to one!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We're not comfortable calling people 'fans' yet. They're just people who like our music, more like friends of the band really. We chat to people at the gigs we play, we'll reply to anyone talking to us online. We appreciate it a lot, more than we can put into words really.

14. What do you think of our site?

Looks good! These sites are so important for upcoming bands.

15. Something to add?

We release our single TRIBES on November 18th through the usual channels - bandcamp/itunes/spotify etc. Our EP RATTLE will be released February 10th through Loner Noise Records.
