News: GODHUNTER Premieres "Like Glass Under Black Fingernails" Via Decibel Magazine As Codex Narco Nears Release; Preorders Posted

As GODHUNTER prepares the Codex Narco EP for release next month - donating the proceeds from the album's sales to Planned Parenthood -- Decibel Magazine has premiered the record's monstrous "Like Glass Under Black Fingernails."

 

Joining GODHUNTER's new stripped-down core lineup of guitarist/vocalist David Rodgers, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist Matthew Davis, Codex Narco features contributions from members of CHRCH, Demon Lung, Mountaineer, Thorne, Methra, and others. Codex Narcowas mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and features a cover of Tegan & Sara's "Walking With A Ghost," for which a video is being created to support suicide prevention. The record features artwork by Bailey Illustration and layout by Cool Ghoul Ltd. (Ethan McCarthy of Primitive Man).

GODHUNTER's David Rodgers shares, "We have never been a band that shies away from social issues, but on Codex Narco we're added more layers of personal strife than ever before. On the surface this song is about a very real subject, the ant-walking alligators of Hiroshima. You can Google that if you want to be even more terrified about the prospect of nuclear war that our current President seems to be driving us towards.

 

"But this is also a metaphor about our personal lives constantly being assaulted by things like social media and overexposure," he continues. "We're burning ourselves alive. To get this feeling across in the song, we recruited our longtime friend Thorne to lay down these vocals. We needed someone that understands how we feel and has a voice that can covet that emotion and we couldn't think of a better person than him. Clay from Mountaineer plays guitar on this and Adam from Demon Lung plays bass on this song as well, making it the most collaborative effort on the album."

 

Codex Narco will see digital release through Battleground Records and cassette release through Baby Tooth Records on May 19th; preorders are now posted HERE.

 

In September of 2015, after finishing a successful US tour with Destroyer Of Light, several members of GODHUNTER amicably split with the band, simply moving on with more family commitments and unable to commit to regular touring. Within weeks of the lineup shift, the rest of the band began writing new material together through internet conversations and individual recording sessions, as remaining guitarist/vocalist David Rodgers, drummer Andy Kratzenberg, and keyboardist Matthew Davis, currently reside on opposite ends of the country, spread across Washington, Arizona, and Georgia. The remaining members recruited guest vocals from Eva Rose (CHRCH) and Josh Thorne (Thorne), bass from Adam Sage (Demon Lung), guitars from Clayton Bartholomew (Mountaineer, ex-Secrets Of The Sky), and vocal, bass, and guitar contributions from Nick Genitals (Methra) to take part in the record, much of it recorded at Homewrecker Studios in Tucson, with the additional material recorded by each musician at their hometown studio of choice.
