Interviews: Exoaura

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Progresive Metal band Exoaura, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Lindsey: We went back and forth with ideas but ultimately wanted our name to represent a concept of being something bigger than the boundaries and limitations that people put on themselves. So, we landed on 'EXOAURA'. Exo meaning outside of and aura meaning one';s atmosphere.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Adam: We both have very different styles and influences, but have this common love for progressive, alternative metal, so it just made sense to go this direction.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Lindsey: Yes, we've been writing and rocking stages together since 2004. We both hail from the nu-metal band Reflection and have been doing different music projects together ever since.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Adam: I'd have to say TesseracT. I've had the chance to meet the boys, have conversations, watch their performances and they never cease to amaze me. They each have bits of goofy to them and are all incredibly humble human beings that work around the clock for their fans.

Aside from who they are, their music is quite unique to the metal scene. Being one of the pioneers of ‘djent’ with their syncopations, polyrhythm grooves and dynamics are inspiring! Let alone the versatility that Dan brings to the mic in his ornamentation and clean style vocals, this band is unstoppable.

Lindsey: Tool will always be one of my favorites, because of the talent that Maynard James Keenan has as a writer and singer and the huge impact that the band has had on me musically.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Lindsey: In general, my influence tends to be the polarity of love and hate. For our self-titled EP the main inspiration was how disconnected and divided the world has become and that there are people who are strong enough to surpass that.

6. Where was your last gig?

Adam: Our last gig was at Studio 7 in Seattle WA, US with a previous music project. EXOAURA is a new project, so it'll be exciting to tour with our new sound.

7. Where would you like to act?

Lindsey: It's been a dream of mine for years to play live at Glastonbury.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Lindsey: That's a tough choice, but I would have to say Tool, TesseracT and Karnivool.

9. Whom not?

Adam: Country artists, LOL. Sorry, I don’t think we’d ever be on the same bill.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Lindsey: I've thankfully never had stage fright, but have definitely had shows that I was extremely nervous for. The trick is to turn your nervous energy into excitement and use it to rock that much harder.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Adam: I’ll get lost for hours in my instrumental playlists that include Angel Vivaldi, Flux Conduct, Cloudkicker, Scale The Summit and Animals As Leaders.

Lindsey: There are so many brilliant artists out there, but to name a few: Starset, Tool, TesseracT, Muse and Karnivool.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Lindsey: I had a random fan run up to me after a show and ask me for a 'passionate kiss'. I laughed and told him no, but did give him some signed merch as a consolation prize LOL.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Lindsey: Our fans are awesome! They really show their love and support and it means the world to us.

14. What do you think of our site?

Lindsey: Your website is great. Love how it's put together and blends!

15. Something to add?

Lindsey: We’re releasing our debut EP June 30 th 2017 and are currently giving away a free single on our website: http://www.exoaura.com/downloads

Adam: (for the aforementioned ‘djent’) I think of it more like an adjective than a genre :)
