Interviews: Orynthia

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band Orynthia, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Orinthya was the name Liam and Michael used for a project they had together years ago. We adopted it for this band not long after Michael and Rob joined, swapping the letters around. It was an old wifi password for Michaels' dad back in the day, apparently some kind of inside joke.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

When the line up was cemented, it became very apparent that the music we were playing didn't fully reflect the kind of styles and artists we listened to, or wanted to move forward with. When we began writing "Immersed in Lucidity" that became more prominent as there was a clear difference in the quality of material compared to what came before. Now though I think everybody is happy with how we're moving forward.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Mostly. We met Danny through the band, but the rest of us have known each other for years. Rob and I went to school together, as did Liam and Michael. I would say the band has definitely brought us all closer together as friends though.

4. Each band member favourite band?

John: Tesseract
Liam: Stevie Wonder
Michael: The Dear Hunter
Rob: Haken
Danny: Northlane

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think each individual will have their own inspirations and reasons. For me it depends on a variety of things or events occurring that I can personally relate enough to to feel compelled to write about. Other times I'll write a story, it really does depend from song to song. For writing in general, it's something I've enjoyed doing for as long as I can remember, and that enjoyment alone is inspiration to continue.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in Inverness at the Madhatters venue on May 20th for the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competition. It was lots of fun! Met some lovely folk there as well.

7. Where would you like to act?

It'd be awesome to play UK Tech Metal Fest or Euroblast in Germany. Both great festivals that would be amazing to perform at if we ever got the opportunity.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If we could tour with someone like Haken or TesseracT, that would be awesome. They're both huge influences on our sound. If it was our own then we'd love for our buddies in Solquin to join us.

9. Whom not?

Being honest we would consider any tour we were offered, but realistically speaking someone like UB40 wouldn't exactly be a perfect match.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Psyche yourself up and don't sell yourself short. For however long you're up on that stage you're the point of focus, so own it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands like Haken, Tesseract, BTBAM, Dream Theater amongst many others have inspired us. Each of us have a varied taste though so a lot of that comes into play, especially within certain sections of our songs.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A pack of sea monkeys fertilised with human semen..

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans, and genuinely appreciate everyone that has supported us in any way. We've done a lot off of our own backs and it encourages us to see people appreciate and enjoy what we do, it makes it all worthwhile.

14. What do you think of our site?

I like it! Pretty easy to navigate, plenty of content to sink your teeth into. I like how you cover quite a lot of ground in the underground scene, it's important that these artists gets that kind of exposure.

15. Something to add?

Check us out on Facebook! You can find our EP online through all the main outlets. And thank you for your questions!
