Interviews: The Sky Opened Up

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band The Sky Opened Up, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Daniel: We all sat down together when we started the band and chipped in ideas for names, I came up with the name 'The Sky Opened Up' and it just kinda stuck with everyone. The idea didn't really come from anything deep, but it's just meant to put across the idea of a massive downpour or a storm. I like stormy weather I guess!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Daniel: Personally, my taste in music got slowly heavier over the years. I started on Linkin Park, then it got to bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu, then Blessthefall and Motionless in White etc, and the metalcore side of music was really cool to me and I wanted to be a vocalist in that genre because it seemed like a really sick idea. I'm glad I decided on that.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Daniel: Some of us, yes. I knew pretty much everyone I reached out to in the beginning, but some of them were new to each other. We all got on really quickly though!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Aaron: Delta Sleep.

James: Asking Alexandria.

Adam: I'd say Hatebreed at the minute.

Keiran: Blessthefall or Wage War.

Daniel: Hard one. Probably Fall Out Boy. 100%.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Daniel: To be honest, half of the time, me writing songs consists of some random melody popping into my head whenever I'm at work or somewhere, and I'll record little voice clips on my phone to remember them, and I'll end up building something bigger from it. Lyrics are usually secondary for me, its kinda a case of coming up with the riffs and vocal melodies first and hoping the rest works out, haha!

6. Where was your last gig?

Daniel: Our last gig was at the Think Tank in Newcastle. It was our first and only headline show so far, it was pretty cool! It was a long time ago though, the band went on a break for a while for a bunch of different reasons. We're busy breaking off the rust in preparation for a gig not too long from now.

7. Where would you like to act?

Daniel: Personally, I'd love to play Leeds, Manchester or Liverpool. Especially Manchester because I have mad love for that city. Its not a massive thing but I guess its because we have yet to play a show far from home, and I have friends in all those cities so it would be sick! On a bigger scale I'm sure everyone in the band would agree that Warped Tour would be tight as hell. One day!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Daniel: One singer I'd love to have a feature in one of our songs is Telle Smith from The Word Alive. I've met him multiple times and he's such an awesome guy, and back in the day he was a big inspiration for me to be a vocalist in this genre. It would be so surreal.

9. Whom not?

Daniel: Probably Jake Paul. Sorry mate.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

James: I have and sometimes still do but once I get playing I just get super pumped ha.

Adam: I've never really suffered from it hahaha.

Keiran: Yes certainly, drink plenty water warm yourself up and just breathe/stay calm.

Aaron: I dunno, might not be worth putting out but I just realised like people seeing you play are there 'cause they want to enjoy some good music, like people aren't there to watch you if you screw up, they won't laugh they'll listen to enjoy the rest of the song.

Daniel: Definitely. I still do at times but its never a problem. I dunno if its stage fright or just shakiness from anticipation. Maybe both. I'd advise pretty much what Aaron said, people are there to see you play and you've gotta look at it from their perspective, especially because if you're a musician, you've more than likely been to plenty of gigs which inspired you to do this. You'll go to shows and expect the bands to come on and blow you away and be confident as hell, and that's what you need to deliver to people every single time you play. Own it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

James: Avenged Sevenfold.

Adam: Metallica.

Keiran: Bullet for my Valentine back in the day haha.

Daniel: Avenged Sevenfold. To be completely honest, Synyster Gates is the sole reason I picked up a guitar.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Daniel: I remember this one show we played in Sunderland some years back, there were these students who were there as part of a trip from somewhere in Europe I'm sure (I can't remember too well), and one or two of them asked for signatures after we played. It was so weird to us because we were just a local band and literally had one original song at the time, but at the same time it was so cool!! They really liked us, it felt surreal.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Daniel: At the moment most of our fans are our friends, and of course we love our friends. But in regards to the love they show us and how real they are about what we do, I couldn't be more grateful.

14. What do you think of our site?

Daniel: The site is great man. For real, its very in-depth and there's a vast range of content on there, you guys are definitely dedicated to helping underground bands. We look forward to hopefully working with you again one day!

15. Something to add?

Daniel: Thanks for interviewing us! And whoever is reading, thanks for checking this out. Our debut EP 'The Blood in My Veins' was released on August the 4th, and you can find it on Spotify, iTunes, just about everywhere I think. Cheers!
