Interviews: Voksal

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Voksal from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The short version is that the word ‘voksal’ saved our guitarist from a night in the Siberian snow.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn’t choose the genre chose us. The best music comes from an authentic place, whether that is driven by influences or just what’s inside you. Plus there’s the tools you chose and we use a traditional band setup.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Most of us didn’t. Jules and Kasper go back a long way, but it’s largely been a meeting of musical minds (via gumtree ads)

4. Each band member favourite band?

Zak: The Strokes- everyone of their songs is has a moment of musical genius in it, even if it’s a drum break for 30 seconds or the vocal line for the whole tune. I never cease finding things I love about their music.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Writing music is a release, it helps you communicate feelings in a non-verbal way. You can use music to express the things that are impossible to speak. The thing is once you’ve written a song it doesn’t stay still you re-invent it over and over again every time you play it and it takes on new meanings and expresses different things from the moment you first put it together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Hoxton Bar and Grill, our singer was sat on a bar stool with a broken foot. But the sound was amazing.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Glastonbury Festival. That’s the pinnacle right, it’s lost a wee bit of the magic with how big and commercialised its got but there’s a soul there that no other festival has.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Jack White. Probably the greatest live performer of the last 30 years.

9. Whom not?

Robbie Williams. For so many reasons.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stare at the back wall above people’s faces. It looks like you’re looking at the audience but you’re not. Also if you do watch the audience try not to read too much into what the crowd do. It’s easy to think one person whispering to another means “I hate this band” when actually their saying “this is amazing.”

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Collectively there are reference points. Bloc Party, Interpol, the StrokesVampire Weekendthe Walkmen. Individually the lists are huge and diverse

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had a stage invader a one gig just after the death of Chester Bennington who mid song went up to each member of the band and asked us to play some Linkin Park, which unfortunately we hadn’t practiced and couldn’t do.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They have great taste 😉

14. What do you think of our site?

Looks interesting.
