Interviews: MACRO

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Crossover band MACRO from Mexico. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Yes, we planned it. We were discussing about a name for the band and we invented the concept “MACROPARLANTE” by putting together the words MACRO (big, a lot) and PARLANTE (the person who speaks, in Spanish), in an attempt to give the idea of speak in a lot of languages (musical geners in this case). Finally we decided to just take the word MACRO because it is a short word that can be understand in almost every language.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Because each member listen to different music genres. For that reason we concluded that it was a good idea to mix them with metal music (which is the common genre we listen to).

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not at all. Guitarists Ángel and Armando and bass player Mau knows each other since high school, they had a band already before MACRO. Vocalist Lalo was invited some years after by Mau, who met him by a mutual friend and finally Korl joined the band right after the EP Macroparlante recording when we were searching for a drummer.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We don’t have a specific favourite band, but we can name our first influence that dig us into music:

Armando: Queen
Ángel: Tool
Mau: Primus
Lalo: Tool
Korl: Slipknot

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We take influence from a lot of different areas to make our songs, such as literature, architecture, films and documentaries, universal history, visual arts, life experiences and so on.

6. Where was your last gig?

Last June 22nd in Mexico City. It was a very good experience, because we shared stage with bands we haven't played before of stoner rock (a different genre than MACRO). Even when we were the only Crossover band at the event the crowd enjoyed our songs. It was great!

7. Where would you like to act?

Actually, we are about to go on tour with some brother bands with the objective to promote our material in order to reach the most important festivals all over Mexico. Also, we have in mind to make an abroad tour.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are so many people we would like to work with:  Stevic Mackey (Twelve Foot Ninja) , con Granuja y Crudo Means Raw (Colombian rapers), Evan Brewer (Entheos) , con Parazit and Dead Legacy (we have shared stage with both bands before) an orchestra…

9. Whom not?

MACRO is not closed to collaborate with anybody. That's maybe we enjoy a lot music and we like to learn from other musicians.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, maybe the common feeling before take the stage. We have a lot of fun at the stage and maybe that's the reason we have had a lot of good experiences up there.

To the beginners we can suggest them to enjoy the experience of being playing, no matter what is happening at that moment and let themselves be.

Also, we think that the work before the show is so important to gain confidence in themselves (i.e. to practice enough for the gig) as well as to prevent any unexpected event (have an extra cable or strings).

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tool, Mudvayne, la Gra$a, Bill Evans, Periphery, Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Doble Porción, Karnivool, Bent Knee, Tesseract, Twelve Foot Ninja, Tygran Hamasyan, Entheos, Leprous, Jojo Mayer (Nerve), Sikth, El Tri, Santa Sabina, Queen…
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Someone asked us if we knew the “Rei joi chili peipes” XD (in reference to Red Hot Chilli Peppers with a very common Mexican non English speaker pronunciation)

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love that our fans note the details of our music and we appreciate their feedback (even when they give us critics).

14. What do you think of our site?

We love that it is a very useful site where the bands can share their music all over the world. In addition, you give the opportunity to independent bands to get promotion. For us it is awesome that you categorize all the genres, giving the opportunity to discover new music of your favorite genre.
