Interviews: The King Of Mars

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock band The King Of Mars from USA. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that? 

I was watching the show, Adventure Time, and one of the episodes features Abraham Lincoln who happens to be the King of Mars in the show. He’s a total badass and I realized that would be the perfect band name. 

2.Why did you want to play this genre? 

I grew up listening to all the classic rock bands because of my older brother and knew I wanted to make rock music when I got a band together. As I got older, I got into jazz and hip-hop and metal and pretty much every other genre in the world and found a way to fuse those sounds into rock music as well.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

We all know each other mainly because of this band. I met Matt through a guitar class at Columbia College Chicago and he introduced me to our bassist, JJ. Then we kept meeting new people and adding them to the band from there.

4. Each band member favourite band? 

John Bruner - constantly changes, but right now I’m very into Alice In Chains

Randy Deadman - Dirty Loops

Walter Sanchez - Snarky Puppy

Jaime Ruiz - Kneebody

Matt Gordon - Foo Fighters

JJ Frale - Brothers Johnson

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 

I’ve always used songwriting as an emotional outlet. I’m awful at processing emotion so that’s how I’ve dealt with things in my life. I draw from any and all real life experiences from myself or from what’s going on in the world. 

6. Where was your last gig? 

Subterranean in Chicago, IL

7. Where would you like to perform? 

Wembley Stadium

8. Whom would you like to perform with? 

Stevie Wonder

9. Whom not? 

Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana. They’re too smooth. We’d never be able to hang.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

John - The first time I sang for an audience I was so nervous I forgot all the words to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song I was singing. Since then, I’ve realized that I’m on stage with some of my favorite people in the world. When I remember all my friends are backing me up, there’s no way I could be nervous.

Austin - If I think about the audience, I lose my ability to play. If I think about what I’m playing, I lose my ability to be nervous. 

Walter - I suffered serious stage fright until I was about 22. My advice: trust in what you know and trust in the musicians around you. Being able to immerse yourself in the moment can be liberating in its own right. Also, remember to have the confidence that you are there to make a statement and so, play with intent and mean what you say.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that have inspired me the most are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Modest Mouse and Stevie Wonder.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One time during a show, a girl from the crowd screamed at me to let her have my babies right in front of a girl I was dating at the time. It was awkward.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I love our fans. Sometimes I still can’t believe we have fans. I try to never take that for granted. We’re so incredibly lucky to be doing what we’re doing and the fans are the ones who make that possible. 

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is awesome. I love how you guys are looking for bands that haven’t made it to the mainstream. Those bands usually have the most authentic music and need the exposure.
