Interviews About Albums: The Shapers - Reckless Youth (2018)

1. What can you say about your latest EP?

This EP represents our most accomplished work yet. We worked a lot on each step of the process and particularly during the pre-production stages of the recording. There is a story behind each song, because we wanted to offer something with more personal lyrics and emotions, provoking a different feeling in each track. We have shot videos for almost every song to provide a visual reference for them as well. We also involved many of our friends in the recording process, to produce songs full of life and fun. The EP is available on all streaming platforms, as well as on vinyl, cd and cassette tape.

2. What is the meaning of the EP’s name?

With “Reckless Youth” we wanted to capture the essence behind that moment when you are still young and crazy, scared of nothing and you feel that everything is possible. Many people lose this state of mind very young, but we want to try and always keep it ‘cause life is better when it’s fun!

3. Which one of you guys is the composer of this release?

Our singer and guitar player Anthony is the composer of this release. Our producer Ayumu Matsuo was also very involved at many stages of the creation process. 

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick and why?

We would pick Another Chance. We actually just released a music video for it using tour footage from last year. It was mostly shot in Indonesia, and right now we’ve just arrived in Indonesia again for another tour! Being out on the road touring and meeting new people is what we like best about playing, and the video for this song truly represents this.

5. Is there a special message in this EP? If there is, what it is?

There is a meaning behind each song that you should be able to catch when listening to them! The special message in this EP is that the rock music scene is still alive in France, so you should go to shows and have some fun!

6. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share with us?

“I’m never gonna have no regrets wherever my life takes me. Just wanna bring some fun into the world out there” from our track No Regrets. Life is too short to waste time with regrets. So, let’s enjoy it to the max before it’s too late!

7. Which inspirations have been important on this EP? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?

Each track of the EP comes from different inspiration. We draw our inspiration and style mainly from skateboarding and surf culture. Athletes like Tony Hawk or Rodney Mullen have had a very strong impact on our life. Actually, without skateboarding, we would probably not be playing in a band today!
