Interviews About Albums: Hunter Alive - May As Well (2018)
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
We're really excited to have it out there for people to get a peak at what to expect from us in 2019.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
The EP name is the title of the second track, and if you read the lyrics of that song the title is open to interpretation.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Patrick wrote the core rhythms of the instrumentals with all the other members contributing their style of playing to that initial mold. The lyrics for "Leach" were written by Jake and the lyrics for "May as Well" were written by Zach.
4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick?
As much as we love "Leach" and the fun music video we made for it, "May As Well" definitely hits home. It's super personal when we play it live every ounce of energy that we have comes out of us.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD?If there is what it is?
The title track is an anti-suicide song. Zach had a good friend who killed himself in high school. But the point of the song isn't really to focus on the event, but it's a mixture of the feelings/and images from that event and the aftermath along with a very simple plea that if you are struggling to just live your life. No matter what you're going through, things will change, it will get better, it's not worth taking your life.
6. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share?
May as Well---
"It's been a long time coming
and I cant see the road ahead
Around the bend, around the bend Inside my head it never ends.
And your shadow it covered me
beneath the trees
Breathless bitter breeze,
Concrete to our knees.
I've made mistakes
But never like yours
Too permanent My heart hit the floor.
But if i could say
To anyone out there
Immersed in the fog
Weighing the cost.
Please know
Even though you cant see it
Believe that there's an end
Just walk beyond
Feel it in your heart.
Theres more to life than this
It's not an empty abyss
If i could take that drive again
that late May night
I know what id say
When you told me
Life is meaningless
Live your life And as the winter sun peaks out from behind the clouds, the icicles melt off the tree branches seeping into the dirt, where your footsteps once traced a June sky.
Live your life. Kick the dirt off your shoes."
7. Which inspirations haven been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thanks specially?
For the EP it's really the start of us coming together musically as a band, our early material was a bunch of songs that Patrick wrote, we learned, and then we recorded. Jake actually joined the band basically while we were in the studio recording that first EP! But this EP is different in that it shows us more as a band of guys playing together and finding a focus in our sound as a group of guys writing together. At this point we'd really like to just thank anyone that has supported us so far.
8. Something to add?
Thank you for this opportunity and interview!!
