Interviews: Backroads

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Melodic Hardcore band Backroads from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Band name was a tough one. We tried everything, then Alex used a lot of song names in his ideas and he liked Backroads by Lonely The Brave. So we used that.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We have had a few genre changes since we had the idea of the band. First it was pop punk meets metalcore. Then we went full metalcore as we knew it made sense. A lot of our inspirations came from metalcore bands also.

3.  Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The band started as Eddie and Alex at college. We then sought out Jack who also did the same course as us. Then Kyle had been a long time friend of Eddies and he did a trial and we all just clicked together.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Eddie’s is Silent Planet.  I think he’d probably kill to play alongside them.
Kyle’s is Altered Bridge,
Alex’s is Blink 182 - I know, a little different to our music - and Jack’s is Skillet.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We tend to listen to a lot of music to inspire us. Like if there’s a nice catch to a song to get us going we go off that. Or mostly if we just sit down and randomly play around with our instruments we tend to come up with something. For who, we have taken a lot of inspiration from bands like Casey, While She Sleeps, Silent Planet and Being As An Ocean.

6. Where was your last gig?

Halloween Havoc at The Frog and Fiddle in our second hometown of Cheltenham.  We had the best time playing with all the other bands. It was a great way to party for Halloween.

7. Where would you like to act?

London is definitely a step we’d like to take in a short while, but Europe would be amazing for the future.

8.  Whom would you like to feature with?

There are probably so many people we’d like to feature with. But the two that stick out for us are Garrett Russel from Silent Planet and Sullii, an emo rap artist from the UK and is the front man of Crooks UK.

9.  Whom not?

Nothing to answer here.

10.  Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We have all had our days for stage fright, it’s a completely natural feeling when you have people in front of you while you perform and express your art. A way Kyle had put it to us was to pretend you’re somebody else and have a stage persona. Have something to separate yourself, wether it be a piece of clothing or makeup. That’s why our guitarist Alex wears a mask.

11.  What bands have inspired you the most?

Casey, Crooks and While She Sleeps are our biggest influences.  We take small elements from their songs and intertwine them into our own creatives.

12.  What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We have a few quirky Facebook messages from some strange people but nothing that would be truly weird.

13. What do you think of your fans?

For the supporters we know we have and the ones we don’t know of, of course we love them, there’s no other way to say it.  We appreciate the turnouts to gigs, the streams and buys of our singles and EP, and all the interaction we have with them.  We keep growing because of them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great that you’re reaching out to bands like us in the scene and helping expose them further.  Smaller bands, such as us, need the extra help to grow further, and it means a lot that you’re interested in speaking with us.

15. Something to add?

Our EP is available on all platforms, so make sure you check it out.  And be ready for new music in the new year, we’re going to blow your socks off.
