Behind The Artworks: Deference & Vanity - Condemned To Repeat (2019)

Two hotly-tipped emerging metal acts have joined forces to create a spilt EP, entitled Condemned To Repeat, which arrives on Friday 26th April. Featuring two tracks from VANITY and two cuts from South Coast metallers DEFERENCE, the EP is a collaboration in which each band has invited the other vocalists to share vocal duties. Evoking favourable comparisons to progressive metal acts such as In Hearts Wake, Architects, and Northlane, the EP is a powerful statement. We asked Luke (guitarist from Vanity) to elaborate about the project: “Rob and Matt from Deference put forward the idea of a collaboration towards the end of 2017. We decided against creating a hybrid band between the two but wanted to focus more on the initial project of creating music as a collective. It was a great experience and it was enlightening to learn from one another.”

Luke goes out to exclusively talk to us about the artwork. “Matt Daleyy from Clearway Media (www.clearwaymedia.co.uk) handled the artwork and we are so pleased with the end result. We wanted the artwork to encapsulate the idea that the world is full of positivity, light and vibrant colour. But also, the idea that there is a darkness and that each of our actions have consequences. The bustling metropolis of everyday life has a hold over the rotting core of what we have become and what we are becoming. The juxtaposition in the artwork, we feel, perfectly depicts the story we're telling within the tracks.”

DEFERENCE & VANITY LIVE: 25-03: Manchester Rebellion; 26-03: London The Unicorn; 27-03: Brighton Quadrant; 28-03: 29-03: Southampton Suburbia.
