Interviews: Kid Dad

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock band Kid Dad from Germany. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We wanted to tackle the the idea of the boundaries you have being an adult and being a kid. We hated seeing how young people got treated like babies just because they're not 18 yet and how it's strange for everyone when grown-ups behave crazy or impulsive. Everyone can be sad, happy, crazy or introvert – fuck the age. 

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We never planned to sound like anything. We surely have some influences in the 90s and 00s because that's when we were born and raised, but there was never a thing like 'let's copy a band'. Be yourself. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we all knew each other from university and hanging out as friends. Max was our photographer back in 2016 and when our bass player quit he was fthe perfect fit.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Michael: Eden

Max: blink-182 (Tom DeLonge era)

Marius: Radiohead 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We all have the deep need to express ourselves through art. It's sometime hard for all of to express grief or pain because it feels like everything sucks at the moment. Our music is kind of a photo of the inside of our heads. If you want to know us, listen to us. 

6. Where was your last gig?   

Berlin, when Val Sinestra, a Berlin-based band, invited us to play a festival in their city. It was awesome! 

7. Where would you like to act?  

Everywhere, but Japan would be very exciting! 

8. Whom would you like to feature with? 

Billie Eilish! What a fucking legend! 

9. Whom not?   

Mario Cuomo (The Orwells) 

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?   

Practice, be sober and remember that you want to convey something, be confident. 

11. What bands have inspired you the most?   

Placebo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Twenty One Pilots and Radiohead. Every band formed us in other ways and intensities. 

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?  

Max and Marius had a room for rent in their apartment and then there was this fan who asked if the room was still for rent so she could quit her schooling to live with us. That was very weird and we decided to save her from a mistake and declined. 

13. What do you think of your fans?  

They are unbelievably amazing. They bring self-baked cakes to shows, they make photo albums of us and send us merch designs. They do so many beautiful things and come to shows no matter how far they have to drive. The most insane part is, that we have only been around for about 2 years now and they became a family to us and it's beautiful watching this family grow!
