Interviews: Soul Of Steel

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal/Power Metal band Soul Of Steel from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Soul of Steel were born at the end of 2006 as a pure power metal band, made up of boys just adults, who after so many struggles made their way in the difficult Italian metal scene. Many live and important collaborations carried out by us, starting from being opening band for Labyrinth, DGM, Russell Allen, Mark Boals, Edu Falaschi, etc., up to personal collaborations with Roberto Tiranti, Olaf Thorsen, and Simone Mularoni. We can affirm and confirm that we literally own a soul of steel to strive this journey from the beginning!!!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The genre that basically united us was power-progressive metal and heavy; we won't deny you that up until 10 years ago there being here in Italy bands like Labyrinth, Vision Divine, Rhapsody, that touring a lot around for the world, which had become as our reference model from taking inspiration, without forgetting obviously sacred monsters as Dream Theater, Helloween, Blind Guardian, etc; but like every band, we just didn't want to be absolutely a pure copy of someone else, but always try to be able to dare something of ours with time and experience.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Our journey so far has led us to different choices, because of many reasons, those because job, those for studies, they had to give up; among us, at least half of us, have not only shared music together, but we were already friends who share every mate’s situation; being a band that comes from Puglia, south of Italy, we know each other despite playing different styles, and we believe, and hope, that in a country like our the collective work is the basis to emerge and push up to each other; many times it isn’t so, but we always believe that this can be one of the many reasons for being able to emerge along with many other bands that like us always need greater visibility.

4. Each band member favorite band?

As mentioned before, there are no real favorite bands; maybe, when we were younger there where some of our idol, examples to follow or imitate, but right now we think that every band like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, etc., had given a lot to this music that unites us all, which is precisely metal; so for us every band and every subgenre are essential for growth and dissemination.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We took inspiration from our life and personal experiences, but also from some films or novels that telling historic or fantastic stories.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last the concert was the presentation of the new band line-up: an evening, I would say, very funny, but above all where we found ourselves with old friends and not, and for us, after so long that we were missing from the scenes, it is always a great thrill! So now the new record is almost ready and we can’t wait to have you listen to it!

7. Where would you like to act?

We think that for every metal musician the biggest goal, we thinking so, is definitely Wacken in Germany and ProPower in Atlanta, America; these are currently (for us at least) the maximum, and one day we hope to be there along with many other bands!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Surely we cannot fail to mention Metallica, Iron Maiden or Dream Theater It would be more than a dream!!! But probably there are so many bigs we can’t deny to feature with…

9. Whom not?

There’s no band with which we want to share the stage; indeed, there is always one reason to get to know new musicians, new people and spread the music to everyone!

10. Any of you have ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Obviously when you open for top bands, you feel a little frighten and anxious, but it’s part of the game and it just happen your first time, then you can feel that it is all that you want and everything came natural, you must relax and feeling all in one with the crowd!!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Each member of the band has his influences, starting from classical metal, passing through prog, power, thrash, up to classic rock like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc, and also some other stuff like fusion or blues. Our music is just a cocktail of these single flavors!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Eheh..it’s a tricky question there we can’t answer at all! (laugh).. there were such crazy and insane facts we passed by when we were touring in places like Netherland, Belgium or Deutschland, but even in our Country, that Motley Crue could be proud of us!!!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are great, and they are so many worldwide!!! We couldn’t live without and we’ll never stop to thank ‘em for all their support!!!

14. What do you think of our site?

You Guyz at Breathing The Core is our Ace in the hole, we thank you a lot for the work you made for bands like us and the music around the world! Keep it up, we need people like you!

15. Something add?

Today at 30 years of age, Soul Of Steel present themselves with a sound that is by now very tending to the prog with marked melodic interventions typical of themselves! Therefore they are moving to release the new album with the desire and the freshness of always but with the awareness acquired in 12 years of experience. So don’t miss it and follow us like you always did and much more than before!!! Stay Metal, we are coming back!
