Interviews: The Outlines

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Punk Rock band The Outlines from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Kyle: We were in the studio recording everything we had put together for our 1st album “The Streets Of England”. Because we had put so much effort into the songs, we over looked the bands name and the release was in a matter of weeks. On the last night of recording driving home we started brain storming for a band name, whatever came to mind we just called out! After about 5 minutes Martyn said “ out of time, out the box, out of place, out of mined, outsiders, out of line; The Outlines” we all just went quiet and sat on it for a moment. It seemed to ring true, so there and then we named ourselves The Outlines. It was the cherry on the cake!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Martyn: Because there’s nothing like a Punk gig! 3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Kyle: We all went to the same school and played in different bands on the local gig circuit. Dean and Martyn were actually in the same band for a while!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Dean: My favourite band is Biffy Clyro. Mon the biff! I love the unorthodox time changes and catchy riffs, then throw in some punchy breakdowns and it’s a winner for me!

Martyn: The Menzingers. They sound like the bands we listened to growing up in the early 2000s, but the lyrics deal with more mature subjects, such as ageing, divorce, work etc.. my favourite album of all time has to be “After The Party”

Kyle: My favourite band would have to be Green Day, purely because they’ve influenced my songwriting so many times! They always release quality content.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Kyle: I’ve been writing for about 16 years, its just something I’ve always had to get out, y’know, it’s like hunger.

6. Where was your last gig?

Martyn: there was a couple of bands touring, so I put on a gig at our local pub with their support to help them out. Fluffy Machine for Switzerland and Hulit Bullet from Israel. What a night!

7. Where would you like to play?

Kyle: definitely Nottingham Rock City

8. Who would you like to support?

Dean:  I think we all agree Slaves at Rocks City would be epic!

9. Who not?

Kyle: Olly Murs, genuinely the only thing I won’t listen to!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Martyn: I think everyone does when they’re younger, but over time your confidence grows. You’ve just got to own it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Kyle: The Clash, Sex Pistols and Green Day.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Kyle: When 50 year old men start asking for a kiss, that’s a bit weird.. You know who you are!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Kyle: We have the best fans, we get so much support from them and they keep us going!

14. What do you think of our site?

Martyn: It's really awesome to have something set out that can help out so many bands!

15. Something to add?

Dean: Check out and pre-order our new EP ‘House of Thieves’!
