Interviews: Dead Friends

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Dead Friends from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

Dead Friends originated in 2016 as a solo project. The name was meant to be ironic. As if something tragic happened to the rest of my (Austin) band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Heavy Rock has always appealed to all of us. We listen to all kinds of stuff but when it comes to performing, there’s nothing better than losing your mind on stage. Very therapeutic!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Dan and I performed sketch/improv comedy together. I met Christian as a session drummer when I went to the studio to record Down For Good. The brothers, Christian and Brian, did not know each other prior.

4. Each band member’s favorite band?

Austin - Glassjaw

Christian - Underoath

Brian - The Maine

Dan - Thrice We also have a ton of overlap too. Everything from The Beatles to Every time I Die,

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The new EP is primarily influenced by self manipulation. The things that we let influence our lives and decisions. Such as entitlement, belief systems, lust, greed, etc.

6. Where was your last gig?

Shout out to Salisbury Maryland. We played a bonkers Holiday fundraiser. Blood was spilled. The gear was wrecked. Santa pitted.

7. Who would you like to tour with?

Literally, anyone who wants to. Booking our own runs has introduced us to some of the most amazing underrated bands. Also, any of the bands on our favs list. Hit us up!

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I threw up before my very first show. It was just a talent show at my church. I think the only way to overcome it is just immersion therapy. Get out there and fall on your ass. When you get up and realize the world didn’t end, you’re far more likely to put yourself out there more. Whatever you do, don’t picture the crowd naked. Especially if you have supportive parents.

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

In 2020, any band that’s making it happen for themselves. Genre and talent aside- if you love playing music, you can absolutely play music. Pull up a YouTube tutorial and learn what you need to know to make it happen.

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked of you?

Not sure if this counts, but- We’re always looking for a floor to crash on. One time a kind fella invited us to stay at his house. Turns out, he lived on a farm where he raised chickens. The place smelled terrible and 2/4 members got scabies.

11. What do you think of your fans?

Fans are the only reason that we, or any artist, are able to push their passion to a professional level. Especially with the introduction of crowdfunding, it really is ALL about the fans. It’s heartbreaking to see artists taking advantage of fans with outrageous ticket/merch prices, under-delivering with crowdfunding incentives, or charging for meet and greets. If anything, we should be paying to meet you and get your autograph.

12. Anything you’d like to add?

Eat cashews Watch Batman Forever Love people that hate you Listen to Dead Friends
